Description

The Ferreira lab is now hiring a full-time Postdoctoral fellow(s) in Translational Medicine. The group seeks a highly motivated and independent Postdoctoral Fellow candidate(s) with a strong background in multi-omics molecular biology, and systems biology. The identification and in vitro validation of novel biomarkers and/or drug targets in complex human diseases is an overarching theme of our work. The Lab and Research Group is located in the Department of Neurological Surgery, University of Washington Medicinal Center – Montlake, Seattle, WA.

  • The anticipated start date is 4/1/23. This is an annually renewed (12 month service period) appointment.

Postdoctoral scholars are represented by UAW 4121 and are subject to the collective bargaining agreement unless agreed exclusion criteria apply. For more information, please visit the University of Washington Labor Relations website.

The salary range for this position will be $6,083-$7,374 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. Salary will be commensurate with research experience and based on the NIH guidelines for postdoctoral trainees.

Qualifications

Ideal Candidate:

  • Hands-on experience in single-cell and other omics (RNA-seq, WES, WGS, Chip-Seq, ATAC-seq) library preparation
  • Hands-on experience in peptide/protein labeling for mass-spectrometry-based proteomics
  • Proficiency in in vitro studies for biomarker/drug target validation: cell culture/primary cell culture and functional assays (drug treatment, proliferation, invasion, angiogenesis, etc), transfection, CRISPR, flow cytometry, Western Blot, DNA/RNA isolation and manipulation, cloning, PCR, qPCR, ELISA, IHC
  • Strong publication record
  • Ability to work on several projects simultaneously, analyze data, write manuscripts, and assist in data collection for manuscripts and grant applications.
  • Ability to o design, conduct, and troubleshoot experiments independently
  • Ability to follow instructions from PIs and respond to research plans in a timely manner.  
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • The candidate(s) will work independently but also collaboratively with all members and trainees in the lab.
  • The candidate(s) will also assist in the preparation of grant reports and grant proposals. Grant funding, both independent and collaborative (with Drs. Manuel Ferreira and Carolina Parada) are the focus of the position's efforts in the laboratory.

Minimum qualifications

  • A doctoral degree (MD and/or PhD) in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry or a related field or foreign equivalent.
  • First authorship of scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals

Desired:

  • Development of Patient derived organoids
  • Familiarity with data analysis of next-generation sequencing/proteomics
  • Familiarity with common computational biology tools (String, EnrichR, Clustergrammer, IGV, etc)
