The Design Engineer is responsible for continuous improvement of existing product lines and day-to-day engineering activity. You will be part of team responsible for improving the quality, reliability, and cost of current products from concept design through implementation to production. You will work cross functionally to support the design and manufacturing of cooking products manufactured in our Baltimore facility.

Job Description

Responsibilities (80% Core Essential Functions)

  • Responsible for supporting existing product lines by creating designs using SolidWorks 3D CAD software, converting into manufacturing drawings, preparing bills of materials, releasing through the engineering change process, and executing the implementation to ensure efficient assembly in production
  • Drive continuous improvement projects related to improving quality, reliability, and cost of products
  • Provide direct technical support to the production team, sales, and technical service as required
  • Work cross functionally to improve quality, resolve product warranty issues, and address supplier quality
  • Conduct engineering studies through data acquisition and analyze results
  • Perform the design, testing, and operation and/or evaluation of mechanical and electro-mechanical devices or systems
  • Issue and support engineering documentation including bills of materials, drawings, work instructions, quality alerts, customer manuals, wiring diagrams, and specification sheets
  • Ensure products comply with existing safety, sanitation, and energy requirements as well as upcoming changes to state and federal regulations

Responsibilities (20% Business-specific functions)

  • Foster a collaborative culture between multisite engineering teams   
  • Continuously evaluate opportunities to improve product quality, reliability, cost, warranty reduction, and time to market
  • Collaborate with marketing, operations, sales, and other stakeholders to develop new products

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • This position has no direct reports.

Qualifications

Education and Work Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Industrial Engineering, with a minimum of seven (7) years' experience in manufacturing operations (e.g., food & beverage, textiles, automotive, electronics, etc.).

COMPETENCIES

  • Ability to problem solve, lead, communicate, and execute engineering initiatives
  • Comfortable working with multiple engineering teams and manufacturing facilities
  • In-depth understanding of metal fabrication processes, manufacturing, and aftermarket technical support
  • Familiarity with the construction of gas-fired and/or electrical cooking appliances.

Additional Information

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is:

  • Must be able to stand or walk for duration of 2 hours.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, lift, reach and twist to complete all job tasks.
  • Operate common office equipment, i.e. PC, phone, copier, printer, fax
  • Must be able to wear all required PPE (i.e., safety glasses, gloves, steel/composite toe safety shoes) when required

Working Conditions

  • Combination - industrial plant floor, and office.

Hours of Work

  • Monday – Friday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm, some flexibility in set hours allowable.
