Company Name: Checkr

Job Description

About Checkr
Checkr builds people infrastructure for the future of work. And we believe everyone should have a fair chance to work. That's why we've designed a faster—and fairer—way to screen job seekers. Established in 2014 and valued at $5B, Checkr puts modern technology powered by machine learning in the hands of hiring teams, helping thousands of companies like Uber, Instacart, Netflix, Compass Group, and Adecco to hire great new people with an experience that’s fast, smooth, and safe.

A career at Checkr means collaborating with brilliant minds, disrupting an industry, and opening channels of employment to often overlooked candidates. Checkr has been recognized as one of BuiltIn's 2023 Best Places to Work in the US and is a Y Combinator 2023 Breakthrough Company and Top Company by Valuation.

About the role:

Reporting to the Chief People Officer, the Senior Director of Total Rewards will be responsible for all aspects of Checkr’s compensation and benefits programs, including geography-based salary programs, executive bonus, commission-based variable compensation, stock-based compensation, benefits strategy, and administration. The successful candidate will seek to understand existing and historical practices, challenge the status quo, and think strategically in the design and implementation of scalable Total Rewards programs that are simple, easy to understand, and embraced by our employees.

What you’ll do:

  • A desire to build, and create a Total Rewards strategy and roadmap that scales with the growth of the business
  • Look around the corner to anticipate and solve issues before they become problems
  • An ability to make culturally aligned decisions knowing that there is not a one-size-fits-all
  • Grow the Total Rewards team consisting of open roles for a Compensation Manager and Benefits Manager
  • Partner with the CPO, C-staff members, People Team leaders, and colleagues in Finance, Legal, Payroll, etc. in a collaborative and trust-building manner
  • Experience in the preparation of Board materials and partnership with the Compensation Committee as needed
  • Be a thought leader within People and lean into topics outside of Total Rewards
  • Provide services to employees that they don’t know they want

What you bring:

  • Strong knowledge of compensation principles, practices, and regulations, including market analysis, salary structures, incentive design, and equity programs
  • Excellent people management skills, a high bar for talent, and an active approach to employee development and engagement
  • Deep expertise in developing and managing compensation and benefits programs
  • Experience with multiple equity models
  • An active interest in Diversity & Inclusion
  • Continual awareness of industry best practices, emerging trends, and ability to gather benchmarking data
  • Demonstrated project management skills and a track record of success in bringing complex, cross-functional projects to successful completion
  • Technical acumen working with HRIS, Performance Management, and Compensation tools
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills; an ability to communicate complex ideas in clear and easy-to-understand language
  • Public company experience
  • Pre-IPO company experience is nice to have

What you’ll get

  • A fast-paced and collaborative environment
  • Learning and development allowance
  • Competitive compensation and opportunity for advancement
  • 100% medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • Up to $25K reimbursement for fertility, adoption, and parental planning services
  • Flexible PTO policy
  • Monthly wellness stipend, home office stipend

One of Checkr’s core values is Transparency. To live by that value, we’ve made the decision to disclose salary ranges in all of our job postings. We use geographic cost of labor as an input to develop ranges for our roles and as such, each location where we hire may have a different range. If this role is remote, we have listed the top to the bottom of the possible range, but we will specify the target range for an exact location when you are selected for a recruiting discussion. For more information on our compensation philosophy, see our website.

The base salary range for this role in Denver, CO is $259,163 to $350,633

At Checkr, we believe a hybrid work environment strengthens collaboration, drives innovation, and encourages connection. Our hub locations are Denver, CO, San Francisco, CA, and Santiago, Chile. Individuals are expected to work from the office 2 to 3 days a week. In-office perks are provided, such as lunch four times a week, a commuter stipend, and an abundance of snacks.
