We are looking to hire an accomplished Director of Platform Engineering to join the Blackhawk Technology Engineering Organization and contribute to the engineering team responsible for leading designing, developing and maintaining the productivity platform. The desired candidate would have an excellent understanding of the technologies to deliver highly available solutions with high transaction volumes.

Responsibilities

  • Define technical strategy. Lead through collaboration and influence rather than decree or direction. Align executives and product teams to prioritize technology initiatives.

Help them realize their potential by setting clear expectations, openly evaluating performance, upholding accountability, and providing challenges (within and outside their team) to stretch their skills.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration and excellence. Actively promote diversity and inclusion.
  • Influence and transform group dynamics and patterns. Build creative solutions for effective teams across their organization.
  • Drive and own improvements in end-to-end infrastructure and systems.
  • Be the domain expert who is tuned in to industry trends and applies best practices.
  • Success in this position will be defined by the organization having a compelling vision, execution agility, technology that can scale to meet the business needs, and operational excellence. Her/his enthusiasm to make a difference will be contagious and felt across the organization.
  • Lead the Observability functions to improve developer productivity, increase deployment velocity and reduce MTTR
  • Partner closely with engineering and product teams
  • Collaborate with finance and engineering to plan capacity, forecast budget and optimize cost.
  • Hire, mentor and retain exceptional talent, and create an environment for them to excel in their career
  • Bring accountability to the organization by developing OKRs and executing on them flawlessly.

Qualifications

You Will Be a Great Fit If You Have

  • BS Degree in Computer Science or related field required; Master’s Degree preferred
  • 10+ years of managing engineering teams.
  • Proven track record of defining and implementing technology strategy to deliver business results.
  • 12+ years of experience in a combination of Software Engineering, Infrastructure, Security, DevOps and SRE functions
  • 7+ years of cross-geographic people management experience leading high-performance teams of Architects, Engineers and Managers
  • Experience managing multiple managers.
  • Experience working at a high scale company.
  • Excellent people skills and the ability to influence without authority.
  • Excellent written and executive communication skills.
  • Experience working on a large-scale application is a big plus.
  • Deep experience in building and operating modern cloud-native distributed infrastructure/platforms focused on infrastructure as code (IaaC), containerization, autoscaling, self-healing, server-less, etc. with heavy reliance on automation.
  • Experience managing large-scale, high-volume, complex B2B (or B2C) multi-substrate public cloud infrastructure
  • Hands-on experience in owning and operating 24x7 production infrastructure with superior availability (99.99% or greater), resiliency (across regions), and scale (millions of reqs/day)
  • Solid working experience with Unix/Linux Server, Databases (RDBMS, SQL and NoSQL), Search, Containerization and Orchestration technologies
  • Track record of delivery using lean / agile engineering processes focused on OKRs, collaboration and rapid iteration
  • Superior problem solving, planning, coordination and communication skills. Proven ability to stay calm under pressure when dealing with demanding customers. Curious and detail oriented

Benefits

Salary Range for California Residents Only: $193,640.00 to $271,200.00

 

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, Blackhawk Network offers benefits including 401k with employer match, medical, dental, vision, 12 paid holidays throughout the year, 1 hour of sick pay accrual for every 30 hours worked, parental leave, life insurance, disability insurance, accident and illness insurance, health and dependent care flexible spending accounts, wellness benefits, and flexible time off for all full-time employees.
