Job Description

The Academic Reading Teacher will deliver high-quality reading instruction to grades K-12. This role involves developing engaging lesson plans aligned with Arkansas state standards, assessing student progress, and fostering a positive learning environment that encourages critical thinking and problem-solving skills.​

Curriculum and Instruction

  • Develop and implement lesson plans that align with the Arkansas English Language Arts Standards.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies to accommodate diverse learning styles and needs.
  • Incorporate technology and real-world applications to enhance reading comprehension and engagement.
  • Assess student learning through formative and summative assessments, providing timely feedback.​

Classroom Management

  • Establish and maintain a classroom environment conducive to learning and respecting all students.
  • Implement effective classroom management techniques to promote student engagement and discipline.

Collaboration and Professional Development

  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop interdisciplinary lessons and share best practices.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with educational trends and methodologies.
  • Engage with parents and guardians to communicate student progress and address concerns.

Other responsibilities (As Needed)

  • Supporting student recruitment, enrollment, and retention activities as needed
  • Write letters of recommendation for students as needed.
  • Additional tasks as requested to support student achievement, school culture, and team collaboration.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Education, English, or related field required.
Licenses: Standard Arkansas Teaching License in Elementary Education (K-6) or English Language Arts (7-12); or eligible for licensure through reciprocity; or currently enrolled in an Alternative Licensure Program (ALP).
Experience: Prior teaching experience in reading or language arts preferred.

  • Must pass state and federal background checks, including fingerprinting and child maltreatment registry checks.
  • Ongoing participation in professional development activities as required by ADE.
  • Strong content knowledge in reading instruction and literacy development.
  • Proficiency in integrating technology into instruction.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience teaching in a KIPP or other high-performing charter school environment preferred.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) is a plus.

Additional Information

Teacher salaries will be based on the experience, degree level, and licensure per the SY 2025-26 Salary Schedule.
