Senior Environmental Specialist

The Senior Environmental Specialist's primary work responsibility will be to lead field assessments and documentation of environmental resources for electric transmission and other energy-related projects. The individual will assist in the compilation of data and preparation of reports and permitting documents as directed by Task Managers and Project Managers.  This position is full time and will be based in Orlando, FL.

Job Duties:

  • Lead environmental field surveys including, but not limited to, wetland and stream delineations, endangered species surveys, environmental inspections, and compliance monitoring.
  • Data collection using handheld GPS.
  • Prepare permit applications and associated environmental reports.
  • Assist with transmission line siting investigations and siting documentation for regulatory review.
  • Travel may be required as part of this position.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • BS/MS degree in Biology, Environmental Science, or related field.
  • 1-3+ years of experience conducting environmental field surveys in Florida or surrounding states a plus; electric transmission experience a plus.
  • Proven experience in conducting wetland delineations in Florida a plus. Wetland delineation training and certification (PWS/WPIT) strongly preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of/experience with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Wetland Delineation Manual (1987) and Regional Supplements a plus.
  • Must be familiar with local flora of Florida and have the ability to identify upland and wetland vegetation; experience using field guides and dichotomous keys required.
  • Knowledge of ERP permitting with FDEP and WMDs a plus
  • Knowledge of Section 401/404 permitting a plus.
  • Ability and proven experience in conducting avian surveys a plus.
  • Ability and proven experience in conducting botanical surveys for RTE species a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and technical writing ability.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications; ArcGIS experience a plus.
  • Strong work ethic with a desire to learn.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • A valid Driver’s License is required.

Other:

  • Ability to hike moderate distances through unimproved terrain, utility rights-of-way, in remote areas, etc.
  • Ability to hear and visualize potential hazards during fieldwork or site visit situations.
