POSITION SUMMARY
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Year-Round After School Instructor will assist the Site Coordinator in the operation/implementation of the summer and school year after school programs, adhering to all the policies and procedures as outlined in the department handbook. The staff must be able to lead a group of participants through the programming of each day. The Instructor will assist in fostering a safe and nurturing environment for all program participants. Regardless of primary assignment, this position may be required to travel between program sites as needed.

- You'll support the commitment of the YMCA to child abuse prevention by:
- Report any items that may provide a health or safety hazard to staff, members or guests to your supervisor.
- Follow all policies and procedures related to keeping children safe in our facilities and programs, including those related to the monitoring and supervision of children.
- Report any suspicious behavior and violation of policy and procedures to your supervisor.
- Complete all child abuse prevention training as required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Provide guidance and leadership with a group of children.
- Facilitate group activities throughout the daily schedule.
- Provide a safe and nurturing environment for all.
- Develop a caring, consistent adult relationship with program participants.
- Provide constant adult supervision with each activity to ensure the safety of all program participants.
- Assist students with academic, recreational and enrichment activities.
- Assist the Site Coordinator in handling discipline, complaints, and conflict resolution.
- In situations of conflict among participants, exercise positive youth discipline techniques (i.e. Core Values, Redirect, Behavior Agreements, etc.).
- Work collaboratively with YMCA association and leadership.
- Be actively engaged in working with students, use provided curriculum materials to assist students in learning and achieving academic success.
- Model appropriate behaviors including cleanliness, punctuality, sharing, healthy habits, sportsmanship, and table manners.
- Perform duties and tasks as assigned by the Site Coordinator.
- Treat all students, parents, and fellow staff with respect.
- Submit all required documents on time.
- Follow YMCA rules pertaining to smoking, use of alcoholic beverages, and use of drugs.
- Encourage respect for personal property and the school.
- Participate in all activities, including but not limited to: family nights, staff rallies and No School Camp Days.
- Maintain an open line of communication between the Site Coordinator, Regional Director, site staff, school faculty, and parents.
- Ensures a strong focus on character development and diversity, equity and inclusion throughout programming.
- Reports damaged equipment or safety hazards promptly.
- Performs any other functions necessary for the smooth and efficient operation of the YMCA of Rock River Valley.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum age of 17 years old.
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Training required upon hire: Child Abuse Prevention, Blood-borne Pathogens, IL Gateways Child Development Overview, Health Issues for Group Care, Nutrition Issues for Group Care, Safety Issues for Group Care; IL DCFS Child Abuse and Neglect/Mandated Reporter
- Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
- CPR, AED and First Aid Certifications required within 90 days.
- Praesidium Academy trainings.
- Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations.
- Proven track record of developing authentic and deepened relationships with others.

1:45-5:30 pm (School Year); Hours may vary (Summer and School's Out Days)
Out-of-School Days as Scheduled by School District
$15.00 per hour
