WellStone is North Alabama's most comprehensive behavioral healthcare provider serving over 13,000 persons annually throughout Northern Alabama, with offices in Huntsville and Cullman. WellStone is looking for empathetic employees to serve as crisis counselors, answering phones, chats, and texts. 988 is more than just an easy-to-remember number—it’s a direct connection to compassionate, accessible care and support for anyone experiencing mental health-related distress – whether that is thoughts of suicide, mental health or substance use crisis, or any other kind of emotional distress. This position is 2nd Shift Full Time.

What We're Looking for:

  • Master’s degree in counseling, psychology or related field.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with callers/chatters/texters, stakeholders and referral sources.
  • Excellent verbal communication and active listening skills.
  • Strong desire to provide excellent customer service.
  • Proficient writing, documentation and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrate a high standard of professionalism, cultural sensitivity, and collaborative efforts when interfacing with law enforcement and individual providers involved.

What You'll Be Doing;

  • Assess caller/chatter/texter risk of suicide via telephone.
  • Provides therapeutic de-escalation as needed via telephone.
  • Provide crisis assessment, intervention and stabilization services via telephone.
  • Develop appropriate and realistic crisis plans, to include follow up tasks depending on the nature and severity of client symptoms.
  • Ability to think quickly and effectively address emergency situations and follow through with appropriate interventions.
  • Refer callers to appropriate agency or community resources to assist with treatment options.
  • Attend departmental, organizational, or other meetings as required.
  • Complete documentation of caller/chatter/texter assessment in a timely and thorough manner.
  • Complete clinical documentation according to agency policies and procedures in addition to regulations of applicable payer sources.
  • Maintain current with new developments in crisis, trauma, and grief counseling.
  • Exhibit clear and professional communication with individuals, families/significant others, staff, and public safety officers.
  • Participate in other responsibilities as assigned.
  • 2nd shift, full-time
