The Mental Health Technician is a great entry-level role for anyone over 18, with a high school diploma and interested in working in the Human Services field. In this position, employees care for clients in a group home setting. Working with individuals on living skills, social, and financial skills and treatment direction/follow through. All while being a key support staff to our therapeutic team. Our Mental Health Technician's will learn proper documentation techniques and other state and federal standards followed by the Department of Mental Health. This position is full time first shift at our Hazel Green, AL location.

What we're looking for:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office and basic computer skills
  • Excellent Oral and Written Communication Skills
  • Excellent 5-year Driving Record (must have valid driver’s license)
  • Certified in (or ability to obtain) CPR, 1st Aide, Medication Assistant Certification (MAC 1), Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI)

What you'll be doing:

  • In the absence of the House Supervisor, assume supervisory authority of the direct care of the residents in the facility
  • Provide consistent instruction, guidance, encouragement, and reinforcement to the residents of the home.
  • Regularly implements basic living skills training objectives and document  progress in the Electronic Health Record
  • Help to coordinate resident activities in the home and in the community
  • Regularly complete documentation of staff notes, incident reports, injury reports, shift observations, and other reports as required by the Alabama Department of Mental Health (ADMH). 
  • Regularly encourages and assists residents in the preparation of nutritious meals per the posted menus and completes meal preparations if residents cannot.
  • May be required to lift approximately 50 lbs. and push/pull or transport client and equipment
  • Ensure residents comply with home rules, maintain a clean and safe environment to include the performance of housekeeping, assist clients when necessary
  • Demonstrate good safety skills, including fire drills, emergency procedures, and back safety techniques
  • Promotes a positive work environment, including positive relationships with supervisors, residents, and their families and co-workers
  • Supervise the administration of medication and document appropriately. 
  • Attends staff meetings, in-service meetings, and trainings as required and remain current on all certifications required for employment.
  • Works as schedule. Correctly complete and submit time sheets and leave requests per policy.
  • Reports any facility or maintenance issues and assist in maintaining the facility, equipment, and vehicles.
