WellStone is North Alabama's most comprehensive behavioral healthcare provider serving over 13,000 persons a year throughout Northern Alabama, with offices in Huntsville and Cullman.  We are a non-profit community organization that offers a wide range of services for every phase of life, from children to older adults.

As the part time weekends Medical Assistant  in our facilities you will be caring for adults who suffer from behavioral issues.  Medical Assistants work with the treatment team to support the medical and psychological needs of our patients.  This includes ensuring proper documentation as required by state and federal law, intake of patients and their initial medical stats, responding to messages and calls, and communicating them based on urgency.  The candidate should be someone who possesses an outstanding attitude, is self-motivated, works with positivity, and works as part of a team.

What we're looking for:      

  • Be a Registered Medical Assistant in the State of Alabama with some experience in the field. 
  • Must hold a valid Alabama Driver's License and maintain a driving record that is acceptable to the agency's insurance carrier.
  • Must maintain minimum of $300,000/$100,000/$50,000 personal automobile liability insurance coverage on personal vehicles.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
  • Knowledge of principles, techniques and standard of a clinic setting.
  • Knowledge of vital signs
  • Willingness to to provide services in a non-traditional setting.
  • Ability to relate warmly to clients and provide person centered care
  • Ability to recognize in individuals any adverse reactions to medication

What you'll be doing:

  • Take temperature, pulse, blood pressure and other vital signs to detect deviations from normal and record the information in the EHR
  • Will assist the primary care CRNP and serve program participants by offering outpatient PH services through an integrated care model
  • Document physical assessments of consumers
  • Maintain complete and accurate documentation
  • Observe all safety and security procedures. Promote a safe and pleasant work environment
  • Assist consumers with releases of information and other forms as needed
  • Complete a medication checklist on each consumer seen
  • Respond to all patient messages and document these conversations in the EHR
  • Contacting the doctor when significant change in clients medications are indicated 
  • Assist clients in applying for patient assistance programs
  • Provide transportation to appointments for clients if necessary
  • Responsible for completing all forms and paperwork required by the agency, state and federal laws
  • Participate in training activities to increase skills and become more knowledgeable in methods and techniques used in the care of psychiatric clients in the use and effects of psychotropic drugs, customer service and crisis de-escalation
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Shift (Part-Time ), Hours: Weekends Sat-Sun 7pm-7am
