Summary:  WellStone is seeking candidates to fulfill the role of a Master’s level Licensed Therapist (Forensic Evaluator). The Forensic Evaluator conducts various assessments to assist in making legal decisions which determine appropriate placement with WellStone’s continuum of care.  May carry an outpatient case load.  Serves as an expert witness for involuntary commitment procedures in Madison County Court (Full Time, Main Campus).

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in mental health discipline (Ph.D. preferred)
  • Clinical Licensure (LPC, LICSW or LMFT)
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience dealing with Adults with Mental Illness
  • Excellent Oral and Written Communication Skills
  • Good organizational and documentation skills
  • Knowledge of community agencies and resources
  • Full-time Monday through Friday 

Duties:

  • Ensures appropriate services are scheduled/provided and the participant’s identified needs are met
  • Functions as a practicing clinician on the team and provides direct treatment, rehabilitation and support services to individuals served by the program
  • May carry an outpatient case load, including conducting assessments, and providing individual therapy and family counseling
  • Prepare a treatment plan with client, to include goals
  • Collaborate with other in-house staff in addition to organizations affiliated with the client for plan developments, provisions of supports and services, to assist in facilitating appropriate placements as needed, to ensure proper follow-up and overall coordination of services
  • Performs intake evaluations, interviews, assessments and/or interventions as needed/requested or referred by the Adult Courts
  • Advises court evaluators, attorneys, and judges about the program as a diversion alternative for individuals with appropriate felony charges or repeated arrests. Maintains a close working relationship with the judicial assistants in the circuit, the Office of the Public Defender, the Office of the State Attorney, and the Clerk of the Court’s Office.
  • Attends specialty courts as a representative of the program
  • Serves as an expert witness for involuntary commitment procedures in Madison County
  • Ensures progress is monitored for individuals referred to or enrolled in the program while in jail and/or court ordered community-based programs
  • Maintains a close working relationship with the mental health professionals at the Madison County Court System and Huntsville Hospital to coordinate services
  • Oversees the development of and completion of conditional release reports
  • Monitors and assesses for safety risks, trauma, abuse and neglect and uses appropriate reporting mechanisms
  • Charts data into electronic medical record (Avatar).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of special needs and behavioral characteristics of Adults with serious Mental Illness, Substance Abuse, Co-occurring Disorders
  • Knowledge of the community and available community & state resources
  • Knowledge of psychotherapy principles and techniques
  • Knowledge of psychotropic medications including their use and possible side effects
  • Ability to perform individual assessments
  • Ability to make clinical decisions and recommendations in a crisis situation
  • Ability to work non-traditional hours as needed to meet the client/family needs
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a multidisciplinary team
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills written, expressive and oral
  • Ability to organize and manage one’s own activities with a minimum of direct supervision
