WellStone is North Alabama's most comprehensive behavioral healthcare provider serving over 13,000 persons annually throughout Northern Alabama, with offices in Huntsville and Cullman. We're hiring for a Part Time RN or LPN to join our Children's FEP team.
What we're looking for:
- Registered nurse or LPN with a current Alabama Nursing license. Two years experience working with people who have serious ongoing mental health problems, to include those with severe emotional disturbance and serious mental illness, preferred.
- Familiarity with psychotropic and neuroleptic drugs, their uses as well as potential side effects.
- Valid Alabama drivers license.
What you'll be doing:
- Serve as a member of the NOVA Program treatment team in formulating and coordinating psychiatric care provided to individuals served by the team.
- Properly administer and/or monitor medication as prescribed by the medical doctor who provides care to the consumers served by the NOVA Team.
- Provide direct nursing services for individuals served by the NOVA Team.
- Provide accurate documentation in confidential consumer electronic medical records in a timely manner.
- Perform all administrative duties as required.
- Provide transportation to consumers when necessary.
- Complete Health assessment/questionnaire.
- Conduct individual or group wellness groups on topics, to include but not limited to, tobacco use/smoking cessation, weight management, nutrition, exercise education, sleep hygiene, education on pregnancy and safe sex education, medication education.
- Meet with individuals monthly to review side effects, changes in medications, weight, waist circumference, blood pressure, BMI, AIMS, BARNES tests
- Track laboratory tests and medical procedures
- Administer depot injections if needed
- Monitor use of over the counter medications
- Coordinate with medical providers
- Follow through with pharmacy orders
- Other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.

- Ability to engage with vulnerable and hard to reach young people.
- Ability to promote recovery in young people with psychosis.
- Ability to work with young people and their care takers/family in an educational and therapeutic way.
- Ability to share skills and knowledge with others
- Knowledge of the legal and ethical issues relative to confidentiality of client records and the ability to interpret and apply them.
- Skills in interpersonal relationships and dynamics.
- Considerable written and expressive communication skills.
- Ability and willingness to document activities and maintain electronic medical records according to agency standards.
- Familiarity with psychotropic and neuroleptic drugs, their uses, and potential side effects.
- Knowledge and ability to properly administer psychotropic/neuroleptic drugs as ordered by the psychiatrist.
- Assessment skills in the areas of physical and mental status.
- Working knowledge of interviewing techniques and principles.
- Demonstrable ability to work independently and to make sound judgements regarding client care.
- Experience of assessing and managing crisis in people with severe mental health problems.
- Ability to communicate effectively with a multi-disciplinary team.
- Ability to work flexible hours due to the special needs of the target population and their families needs
