V2X is growing! V2X is looking for a Senior Principal Project Engineer to join our team!
As a Senior Principal Project Engineer, you will be filling the role of Deputy Chief Engineer of a dynamic and multidiscipline development team within the Weapons System Integration (WSI) team. In this role, the individual will support the WSI Chief Engineer to enhance technical program performance through focusing on messaging, leadership visibility, clear role definition, decision making, organizational relationship, structured feedback and aligned goal setting. The candidate will provide a single engineering technical point of contact with the program office, the customer, and other external entities for programs within the WSI program area. The candidate will support technical and cost estimation efforts for engineering change proposals and integrated change management activity, and lead/support engineering studies.
As required, the Deputy Chief Engineer will engage in the following roles:
- Provide technical direction on overall system design and development
- Support the WSI Chief Engineer to develop strategies enabling the program/business to pursue and capture growth opportunities
- Support the WSI Chief Engineer to execute in accordance with the business area strategic objectives and roadmaps to maximize reuse, reduce product costs and maximize sales/competitiveness of products
- Support technical and cost estimation efforts for Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs) and Integrated Change Management (ICM) activities
- Support the WSI Chief Engineer to work with the engineering centers to ensure appropriate skills and personnel are assigned to engineering program tasks at the appropriate time to execute to program plan
- Lead and/or support engineering studies
- Participate in Technical Interchange Meetings (TIMs) with the customer and subcontractors
- Prepare status or briefings for management
- Support the risk and opportunity board for the program
- Act as “Face of V2X” to senior technical customers for programs within the area
- Work with Supply Chain Management (SCM) & Manufacturing and Depot Operations (MDO) to ensure high quality products. Leverages the core production support team to resolve floor issues quickly
- Elevate issues and risks to appropriate levels within program office, WSI Chief Engineer, and engineering management, as required
- Chairs the Engineering Review Board (ERB) and supports the program manager as technical chair to the Configuration Control Board (CCB) (as needed)
- Chair Failure Review Boards (FRBs) and adjudicating cross-functional impact on proposed corrective actions
- Chair internal technical reviews as determined by the WSI Chief Engineer
- Represent engineering on material review boards
- Lead technical collaboration with internal and external customers looking for new production/repair opportunities
- Ensure contractual and internal technical/production processes are established and maintained on the program
- Leverage Six Sigma and Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) techniques to capture Actual Unit Production Cost (AUPC) reduction opportunities for products
- Actively collaborate with WSI Chief Engineer and ensure alignment between the program efforts and the mission area product/technology strategy
Required Skills:
- Experience providing technical briefs to subcontractors, senior level executives, and/or customers.
- Experience with weapon/armament systems integration, verification, and/or validation.
- Experience planning, managing, and/or leading execution of systems integration, verification, or validation activities in both lab and field environments.
- Active and transferable U.S. government issued secret security clearance is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Desired Skills:
- Experience leading cross product teams to resolve challenging technical problems in a multiple stakeholder environment.
- Experience with new business development for prototype system programs.
- Experience with proposal execution from competitive analysis to capture strategy to proposal delivery.
- Experience in program requirements development & management process.
- EVMS certification/cost and schedule management expertise.
- Experience leading large teams of multi-disciplinary engineers in digital engineering centric program areas.
- Experience in agile/DevOps development environments on integrated hardware/software systems
- Experience on military armament (bomb racks, podded systems, missile launchers) or other weapon related programs.
Education Requirements:
Requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 12 years of prior relevant experience.
