Architecture and Development Manager - Roseville, CA 

Reports to:  Vice President, Architecture

Supervisory Responsibilities:  None

Job Classification:  Regular, Full Time, Exempt

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Architecture/Development manager is responsible for Architecture and Engineering necessary for the development of new construction projects from inception through building permits and then support as needed to the construction team during construction. In concert with VP, Architecture, the Architecture / Development Manager oversees the design of project architecture and overall composition of the communities USA builds.  This position leads the Architecture and Engineering consultant team on multiple assigned projects.   This includes collaborating with the acquisition team on development opportunities, development entitlement managers on project approvals and project feasibility and  the construction team on project efficiencies and standards

Roles and responsibilities of this position include:

  • Work with the Vice President of Architecture, Development Managers and project teams to set the vision and direction of new high-density multi-family development projects.
  • Direct design consultants on the overall design vision and direction for assigned projects.
  • Oversee and coordinate individual project teams from the point when due diligence is approved, through entitlements, design development and construction documents up until building permits are pulled for each assigned project.
  • Work with Development Managers, who lead overall project entitlement efforts, to prepare reports/recommendations regarding land use, infrastructure, environmental requirements, and other matters related to planning issues and entitlements.
  • Oversee the preparation of architecture and engineering (A&E) documentation and submittal of planning entitlement applications; acts as the liaison to planning staff, consultants, regulatory agencies, and hearing bodies during the processing of the entitlements for issues related to A&E.
  • Provide expertise on development, land use, and permitting matters.
  • Solicit RFP's and negotiate project contracts for consultant services in collaboration with VP of Architecture.
  • Oversee support staff to aid in successful projects.
  • Manage project activities, including tracking budgets, schedules, spending activities, and provide guidance on costs and development scope.
  • Coordinate feasibility studies and project development plans, reports and activities with internal and external subject matter experts.
  • Evaluate, understand and monitor current trends in the multi-family industry target markets. This includes attending industry conferences and touring relevant projects in target markets.
  • Continually monitor and evaluate emerging jurisdictional, state or local regulatory and judicial programs, codes and laws as well as new construction means and methods related to multifamily development.
  • Collaborate with construction, property management and interior design staff on the development of project specifications.
  • Along with the entire architectural management and construction team, responsible for the development and ongoing coordination of company’s standard units and construction details.
  • Review project plan documentation for completeness and accuracy.
  • Review and inspect projects during and after construction for completeness and adherence to approved plans.

REQUIRED SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES:

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in planning, architecture, engineering or equivalent work experience.
  • Ten years in residential real estate, architecture or engineering field preferred with experience spread across all design phases from entitlements through construction documents/construction.
  • Affordable and market rate multifamily experience preferred.

Skills and Expertise:

  • Strong leadership skills with proven project delivery.
  • Innovative, creative, detail oriented, and flexible to changing environments.
  • Strong understanding of architectural design, interior design and latest design trends.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws pertaining to land use, housing and creative building design.
  • Strong knowledge of various city processes across multiple municipal departments (Building, Planning, Public Works, Fire, etc.).
  • Thorough knowledge of zoning and other land use regulations related to housing with the ability to research requirements related to A&E.
  • Ability to understand and implement technical and legal materials.
  • Ability to work in team environment.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit, Sketchup and Bluebeam. Proficiency not required.

Other Requirements, Including Travel:

  • Travel mostly within California with occasional overnight stays may be required.

Compensation:  $135,000 - 150,000
