TITLE: Social Work Intern
LOCATION: District-Wide
SUPERVISOR: Building Principals and Assistant Director of Student Services
SUPERVISES: This is not a supervisory position.
JOB SUMMARY: The Social Work Intern provides for the social and emotional development of students and their families under the direction of district School Social Workers.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. All of these duties are under the supervision of a district school social worker.
- Provide casework, group work, coordination/outreach, and consultation to children, parents, school, and community personnel
- Provide crisis intervention to school-age children and their families
- Establish and maintain home-school ties
- Participate in special education evaluation and services determination, including adaptive behavior assessment and social developmental studies
- Cooperate as an interdisciplinary team member with school and community personnel
- Observe students in classrooms for evaluation and problem-solving purposes
- Engage in staff organization, training, and growth through group social work meetings
- Collaborate with school social workers and building staff regarding the implementation of social and emotional curriculum and methods
- Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION
- Enrollment in an approved Master of Social Work Program and successfully completing any prerequisite coursework and field-based placements.
EXPERIENCE
- Experience working with school-age children preferred
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Highly organized
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Excellent problem-solver
- Should be able to work with students with a history of behavior or learning problems.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- 185-day contract (teachers’ schedule)
- Stipend
- This is a one school year position
EVALUATION: The cooperating district school social worker will complete this as part of the cooperating program evaluation program for the intern.
START DATE: Start of the 24-25 School Year.
NOTE: This is not a position within the collective bargaining unit and is not an administrative position.
