TITLE:  Family Academic Support and Engagement Leader

LOCATION: Leal Elementary School

 

Stipend: $1000 total (may be split between two certified staff to have a kindergarten-second grade focus and a third-fifth grade focus)

Reports to: The Director of Family Engagement and Student Support and the Building Administrator

 

Role of the Family Academic Support and Engagement/FASE Leader:  The role of each FASE leader (a certified staff member who works at the school level) is to help support and implement the components of their school’s Continuous School Improvement Plan.  The Family Academic Support and Engagement Leader has one major goal: to support student achievement by engaging and involving families in strategic ways.

Duties:

  • Work with the Continuous School Improvement Plan Team to build communication and remove cultural or linguistic barriers that could impede families and school staff members from working together.
  • Work with the Continuous School Improvement Plan Team to connect families and schools by facilitating and organizing family forums and workshops that build upon family members’ strengths and engage families in the learning process.
  • Work with the Continuous School Improvement Plan Team to provide teacher training on effective communication and culturally responsive teaching practices.
  • Attend Program Council meetings six (6) times during the school year after school.
  • Attend three Data/Check-in meetings with building leadership to review data after each local benchmark assessment window. These data collaboration meetings will be scheduled at the building level (30-45 minutes in length).

  • Attendance in Program Council and Data/Check-in Meetings is a part of the stipend position. The stipend will be prorated if absences occur and members cannot meet the requirements of the position.

  • Lead an interactive family-student workshop once a quarter to teach families and students (together) about how to support learning standards, curriculum, and the Continuous School Improvement Plan goals at home.

  • Collaborate with the building principal to determine how to utilize the FASE budget to enhance the home-school partnership according to the Continuous School Improvement Plan.

  • Attend Parent Teacher Association/Parent Teacher Organization meetings at the beginning of the school year to establish a collaborative partnership with families, and, as needed, during the school year to provide families with strategies to advocate for their children.

Qualifications:

  • Illinois Elementary Teaching Certificate
  • A current employee with Urbana School District #116
  • Knowledge about instructional practices, curriculum, and assessment

Preferred:

  • Experience teaching adult learners
  • Experience coordinating events/activities
  • Classroom teacher

EVALUATION:  The performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on support staff
