Position: Project Engineer

Reports to: Project Manager

The UIP Companies, Inc. (UIP) is a growing, vertically integrated real estate investment, development, asset and property management, and general contracting firm. UIP specializes in multi-family, mixed-use, retail, and light industrial properties predominantly in the Washington, DC metropolitan area, with assets in Baltimore, MD and Arlington, VA. The Project Engineer assists UIP's Superintendents and Project Managers in organizing all construction activity, including:

  1. Understanding the prime contract.
  2. Maintaining records of all subcontracts, purchase orders, LSAs, and PSAs.
  3. Maintaining accurate records of all prime contract and subcontract changes. Understanding the definitions of and distinctions between SCORs, CE, PCOs, PCCOs, and SCOs.
  4. Compose, submit, distribute and maintain RFI’s.
  5. Review, process, and organize submittals. Track procurement of corresponding materials.
  6. At the direction of the Project Manager, create purchase orders consistent with the terms and conditions contained in the subcontractor bids, contract documents, industry practices and applicable Company policies
  7. Have a sufficient understanding of CPM scheduling, and consolidate progress update information.
  8. Maintain logs for all of the above and autonomously issue them before OACMs and upon request.
  9. Assume the accurate and timely preparation of all internal and external reports as required by Company management and the contract documents
  10. Assist the Project Manager in the development of the monthly job status report and maintain cost and budget projections.
  11. Possess working knowledge of all project plans, specifications, prime contract, subcontracts, purchase orders, submittals, and all other project related documents,
  12. Maintain a complete and accurate set of as-builts.
  13. Perform all closeout requirements, including the composition of O&M manuals, training coordination, and turnover.
  14. Perform any other duties as it may be assigned by Project Manager

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline (construction management, engineering, architecture, etc.)
  2. Proven ability to solve problems, multi-task and react quickly to issues and problems
  3. Demonstrated understanding of the sequence of construction and fundamental business activities and procedures
  4. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  5. A safety-first mindset
  6. Ability to work well under pressure
  7. Be a self-starter with the ability to work with/without direct supervision
  8. Exceptional organizational skills
  9. Drive to surpass expectations and grow a business unit
  10. Strong level of expertise in MSOffice including Word, Excel, Outlook; Procore experience preferred
  11. Must be able to travel between jobs reliably
