MAIN FUNCTION:

  • Provides Occupational Therapy treatment services in accordance with standards of the AOTA and The Occupational Therapy Practice Act, NYS Department of Health, and Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals.
  • Effectively implements the activities of designated discipline.
  • Actively supports the mission, goals, and objectives of the Health System.

REQUIRED JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES:

  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to treat referred patients within his/her scope of practice.
  • Must be competent in the clinical application of therapeutic modalities within the scope of his/her licensure.
  • Demonstrates ability to work independently & exhibit flexibility in decision making & prioritizing assignments under the guidance of a licensed occupational therapist.
  • Demonstrates the ability to develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with associates, nursing, social work, and medical staff.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret each patient's requirements relative to age-specific needs and to the care needed.
  • Lives the CARES values at all times.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A.A.S. from an Accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant Program required
  • Current NYS Licensure/Registration
  • Ongoing accredited continuing education as required by NYS licensure or certification
  • CPR Certification within 3 months of employment
  • Additional clinical certifications preferred.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES:

  • Diversified duties require the COTA to apply the skills necessary to treat referred patients in a manner consistent with the plan of care.
  • The treatment plan of patients reflects the necessary application of therapeutic intervention and application of appropriate modalities as indicated through initial evaluation by an Occupational Therapist.
  • The COTA must work closely with the supervising Occupational Therapist to ensure that care is appropriate, safe and is consistent with the plan of care.
  • Documentation must be completed timely and on a daily basis.
  • Documentation must be provided to appropriate staff for co-signatures & to administrative staff for submission to payers & regulatory agencies as necessary.

Pay Range: $22.00 - $32.00

Starting Pay Rate: Based on experience
