Description

The Department of Industrial & Systems Engineering within the College of Engineering is seeking UW faculty to apply to the open Chair appointment.

The applicants are expected to hold the rank of Professor at the University of Washington, or to be able to obtain it by the time the appointment as chair is effective or soon thereafter. The successful candidate will have achieved the rank of professor with tenure at UW by the start date of the administrative appointment. This is a full-time appointment for 11-month a year and the anticipated start date is September 16th, 2024.

 University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research/scholarship, and service.  The individual will have principal responsibility for the management of industrial and systems engineering instructional activities. 

The base salary range for this position will be $14,000-$34,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

 Responsibilities of the Chair include:

● Create a compelling vision for the advancement of the department to include increasing existing strengths, and fostering emerging opportunities within ISE;

● Manage and grow the department, including academic programs, finances, staff, and student enrollment.

● Facilitate professional and scholarly growth of the faculty and staff;

● Lead the mentorship of junior faculty to support their success and retention;

● Ensure cutting-edge education is provided across all programs;

● Enhance partnership with the leaders of UW colleges, departments, and administrations;

● Facilitate knowledge transfer to industry and government as well as community-engaged scholarship;

● Promote department inclusivity, recruitment and retention of diverse faculty, staff and students;

● Increase sponsored research, private and external funding opportunities for the

department, cultivate corporate, governmental, alumni, and other private donations.

Qualifications

  • ·         Has earned a Ph.D. or foreign equivalent in industrial and systems engineering or related fields.
  • ·         Has research and teaching experience in industrial and systems engineering or a related field.
  • ·         Distinguished scholarship in one’s field of research.
  • ·         The successful applicant will be expected to maintain high academic standards
  • ·       Must demonstrate a record of developing and expanding sponsored research programs
  • ·         Experienced in enhancing the representation and success of underrepresented populations.
  • ·         Will be expected to use interpersonal skills and written and oral communication skills to lead and manage
  • ·         The department chair will be expected to encourage open, collaborative and inclusive problem solving.
