Description

The University of Washington (UW) Department of Medicine, Division of General Internal Medicine (GIM) is seeking applicants for a full-time faculty position based out of Harborview Medical Center (HMC).  This position would have research and clinical responsibilities at Harborview Medical Center.  

This position will be at the Assistant Professor rank (without tenure due to funding) on the physician/scientist pathway. Assistant professors WOT are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service. The earliest start date would be October 1, 2023.

The position may include clinical care responsibilities in the Pioneer Square Clinics (multiple locations), After Care Clinic, and/or Addiction Medicine Consultation Service.  These clinics/services often serve persons and groups who are considered at-risk or vulnerable and historically have faced challenges to engage in healthcare.   Clinical and teaching duties may include primary patient care, resident and student supervision, and up to four weeks of inpatient attending on the medicine ward teaching service. 

HMC is a county-owned hospital that is managed by the UW, and is an Academic Center of Excellence.  HMC is also the only Level I trauma center for the broader Pacific Northwest region and its mission is to provide and teach exemplary patient care for the regions’ most vulnerable populations.  The position is eligible as part of the federal loan repayment plan.

Salary

The base salary range for this position will be: $16,500 - $18,750 per month ($198,000 - $225,000 annually), commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

Qualifications

Applicants must have an MD or DO degree (or foreign equivalent) and at least a Master's degree (or foreign equivalent). Applicants must also have board certification in Internal Medicine (or foreign equivalent). Board certification in Internal Medicine must be completed within two years after residency.

Eligible candidates must have an established record of at least one year as a teacher in a university setting, with both medical students and residents, and show evidence of scholarly productivity and peer-reviewed publications of original studies. They must also have (1) a history of NIH/other grant funding or (2) have participated in an academic fellowship and/or advanced degree program with an emphasis on clinical investigation.

In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
