Description

The VA Puget Sound Health Care System (VAPSHCS) and University of Washington (UW) are recruiting for a full-time (100% FTE) staff physician based at the VA Puget Sound with a faculty appointment as either an Assistant, Associate or Professor (without tenure due to funding) in the Division of Rheumatology, Department of Medicine. Salary and academic appointment at the University of Washington will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, and academic rank.

Assistant Professors WOT are eligible for multi-year appointments and Associate and Professors WOT hold indefinite appointments that both align with a 12-month service period (July 1–June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July–June).

Expertise in clinical rheumatology and 12 months of teaching experience is required. The successful applicant will have the opportunity for clinical and academic activities in a variety of rheumatological diseases.

University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service. This position will have both inpatient and outpatient clinical responsibilities at the VA Puget Sound, and will work with and teach trainees in these settings. Participation in the division’s educational activities is also included.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Engaged in direct patient contact or performs tasks defined by statute or recognized custom of medical practice within the bounds of state law as defined by the board of professional licensure.
  • Incumbent will, as defined by the American Board of internal Medicine and the Subspecialty Board of Rheumatology, admit, evaluate, diagnosis, provide treatment or consultative services to patients who present with rheumatic diseases.
  • Incumbent may also perform specialty procedures as delineated in their clinical privileges.
  • The incumbent will take part in continuing medical education (as defined by Licensure), and quality assurance activities.
  • The Rheumatologist performs patient consultation in the hospital setting and the outpatient setting via face to face clinics, telephone clinics and video clinics.

Salary:

This position is paid directly by the Veterans Administration Puget Sound Health Care System (VAPSHCS) and receives no UW compensation. Please refer to the VAPSHCS for information about compensation for this position.

Qualifications

Requirements include an MD or DO (or foreign equivalent), eligibility for medical licensure in Washington State, and Board Eligibility or Certification in Rheumatology (or foreign equivalent).

Applicants must be U.S. Citizens (permanent residents may be appointed only if it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens).
