The Department of Medicine, University of Washington (UW) is recruiting an Acting Instructor at 100% FTE to join the Division of Gastroenterology based at the University of Washington Medical Center. Acting Instructors hold annual appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30) and may be reappointed to subsequent annual terms.  Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. Salary and academic appointment at University of Washington will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, and academic rank. University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service.  Anticipated start date will be September 1, 2024.

The successful candidate for this position will have the opportunity to be involved in clinical, basic or translational research in gastroenterology, with preference for pancreaticobiliary research, or hepatology related diseases and is expected to secure extramural funding in these areas. Candidates with MDs may participate in clinical care of gastroenterology patients, including providing inpatient and outpatient gastroenterology consultative services and endoscopy services. Teaching responsibilities would involve course instruction and/or oversight of medical students, residents, or fellows during outpatient and inpatient clinical activities, in concert with the GI Fellowship program.

The base salary range for this position will be: $7,100- $21,500 per month ($85,200- $258,000 annually) commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. Other compensation associated with this position may include Monthly Additional Compensation (MAC) with a range of: $3,000-$6,000 per month ($36,000- $72,000 annually). This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will hold either a MD, PhD or MD/PhD and, if clinical, must be Board certified or eligible (or foreign equivalent) in Gastroenterology and eligible for medical licensure in state of Washington.

It is expected the candidate will have demonstrated research expertise in gastroenterology and pancreaticobiliary. In addition, it is expected the candidate will demonstrate a track record of published academic contributions. If clinical, it is expected candidates to have clinical competency in gastroenterology and/or hepatology and endoscopy.

In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S,) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
