GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

Under minimal supervision, this position is responsible for:

  • Design of forming dies, machining fixtures, and gages.
  • R&D for customer requirements.
  • Process design and support.
  • Machine design, automation, selection, and implementation.

As part of the Engineering team, this position will collaborate with others for tooling design, and participate in the follow-up on manufacturing processes to review safety, quality, and productivity.  Makes final drawings and models in CAD to Charles Engineering standards, and is responsible for pre-sale drawings and reviews, tooling/setup prints, and secondary tooling. 

This position reports directly to the Engineering Manager or designee.

EXTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS:

This position will occasionally:

  • Communicate with customers to resolve design issues.
  • Work with outside vendors.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Works in collaboration with all production, quality, and sales departments
  • Acquire knowledge to provide roll form technical support in die and fixture designs. 
  • Ability to shift priorities based on internal and external customer needs
  • Regular independent use of 2D and 3D CAD systems (Solidworks, Catia, and AutoCAD) with a high skill-level

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. EDUCATION:  Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  2. EXPERIENCE:  10+ years of relevant experience working in manufacturing (Aerospace experience not required)
  3. COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Good oral and written communication skills are required 
  4. ANALYTICAL SKILLS:  Algebra, Trigonometry, Physics and Statistical Analysis
  5. REASONING SKILLS:  Ability to interpret customer drawings, notes, tolerances, and specifications
  6. TRAVEL:  Minimal
  7. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 
    1. Able to lift 50 lbs. occasionally
    2. Sit or stand for long periods of time
    3. Ability to perform computer work for long periods of time
