Charles Engineering, a division of Universal Alloy Corporation (UAC), is a global leader in the manufacture of aerospace products, specializing in the production of close-tolerance aerospace roll formed sections that can be tailored to a customer’s particular application.  UAC supplies aircraft manufacturers and their subcontractors worldwide and has served the aircraft industry for over four decades.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Actively identify and participate in continual improvement opportunities
  • Maintain roll form tooling
    • Log die set numbers, templates and other shop aids with locations
    • Pull die sets, templates, and shop aids for specific part numbers
    • Return tooling to proper locations
    • Polish die sets
      • Inspect for damage, wear and tear
    • Preset dies
    • Review dies for obsolescence
    • Other tasks as directed by Roll Form Supervisor
  • Promote efficient workflow in the Roll Form department
    • Review roll form production schedule with Roll Form Supervisor
    • Coordinate tasks for Production Assistants
      • Preset dies
      • Retrieve, prepare and deliver raw material to the roll form machines
      • Teardown of roll form machines
    • Assist Roll Form Operators to increase productivity
      • Feeding material
      • Leveling material
      • Buffing material
      • De-twisting
      • Pulling and stacking parts
      • Tear down machines
      • Other tasks as directed by the Roll Form Supervisor
  • Organization of stock raw materials
    • Identify raw materials with inventory tags
    • Identify raw material locations
    • Verify weight and/or count of inventory in the computer system
    • Consolidate material to maximize storage capacity in the raw material warehouse
  • Utilize 5S to organize work areas (tool crib, dies polishing stations, and preset area)
    • A place for everything and everything in its place
    • Perform cleaning, organization, and maintenance tasks to promote safety, increase production and organization
  • Review and maintenance of written setups
    • Verify and document changes made by Roll Form Operator
    • General recording keeping and filing
  • Assist with receiving raw materials
    • Verify Purchase Order Number
    • Verify material condition and specifications
    • Verify coil weight and count
    • Verify the number of sheets
  • Effectively communicate with management, support staff, and other employees
  • Train new employees and cross-train existing employees
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Education:  High School diploma or GED
  • Minimum Experience:  Manufacturing experience preferred
  • Certifications Required:  Annual forklift training

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Communication Skills:  Read, write, and speak English fluently
  • Mathematical Skills: Basic math skills
    • Decimals and fractions
    • Addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
  • Reasoning Skills:  Critically think by use of knowledge, facts, and data to effectively solve problems
  • Interpersonal Skills:  Collaborative, dedicated, team goal-oriented, and reliable
  • Print Reading:  Able to read and interpret roll form set up and production prints
  • Computer:  Proficient with general computer operation, use of IIS, Rad-Tabs, and Excel
  • Forklift Operation:  Loading coil, moving raw materials, relocating ancillary production equipment, loading/unloading trucks, and general use of a forklift
  • Use of hand and powered tools
  • Measuring Equipment:  Proficient with the use of digital calipers, digital micrometers, height gauge, digital protractor, radius gauges, templates, and tape measure
  • Physical Abilities:  Able to lift 50 lbs. occasionally and 25 lbs. repeatedly

Working Conditions:

  • Schedule:  7:00 AM – 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday
  • Overtime:  As deemed necessary by Roll Form Supervisor
