University of Minnesota Physicians is expanding our critical care advance practice provider team due to growth and is seeking a part time Certified Nurse Practitioner or a Certified Physician Assistant to join our Critical Care service. 

In This Role, You Will:

  • Provide inpatient care for critically ill patients in a hybrid role between an intensive care unit and as a critical response provider. 

  • While working on the MHealth Fairview Critical Care system APP team you will get a variety of experiences.  Though always the potential to float between ICU services (including University SICU or  MICU, FSH Med/Surg ICU and West Bank ICU), each APP has a primary ICU they are assigned for the majority of their FTE.  There is a strong interdisciplinary culture on all the critical care services whether they are at the teaching hospital or one of the non-teaching services. In either environments, you will be working closely with academic Critical Care physicians and an experienced group of Advanced Practice Providers, caring for patients with a diverse range of urgent and emergent needs.

  • In addition, approximately 30% of our shifts are responding with the West Bank Rapid Response team.  As a critical response provider you will provide urgent and emergent response and evaluation for treatment of adult patients throughout the University of Minnesota Medical Center - West Bank, including inpatients (primarily orthopedic, med/psych and maternal), acute/transitional rehabilitation patients and inpatient psychiatric patients. You will be working autonomously with telephone support and collaboration from critical care attendings who are not on site.  You will make rapid assessment and treatment decisions in accordance with American Heart Association, Neurocritical Care Society and current standards of care.  You will consult specialists as appropriate, and determine and facilitate patients receiving appropriate level of care. Refined communication skills are required, as well as precise written and verbal handoffs to subsequent healthcare teams.

  • The PA or NP is an experienced member of the health care team who uses advanced practice skill with the supervision/collaboration of licensed physicians to provide comprehensive health care services to patients.

  • The Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner engages in independent decision making about health care needs and provides health care services to adult individuals throughout their life span.

  • Provides physical and psychological health assessments, patient education and counseling, orders and interprets diagnostic procedures, and manages acute and chronic disease conditions ensuring continuity of care for individuals in the communities served.

Your Schedule:

  • Will be required to work both day and night shifts.

  • Part time (.5 FTE) - Saturday and Sunday Shifts

  • Full time (.75 - 1.0 FTE) - Thursday - Sunday Shifts available

We're Looking for a PA or NP Who Is:

  • An experienced Critical Care Provider.

  • Able to lead Code Blue, Rapid Response, Stroke Code

  • Able to respond to sepsis alerts and treat per protocol

  • Uses ongoing closed loop communication in all things

  • Able to manage and perform simulation codes for variety of staff and environments.

  • Strong in the knowledge of dual diagnosis mental health and medical conditions

  • Willing to obtain privileges in relevant procedures

  • Patient, motivated and determined to the provide best critical care possible no matter the environment.

What Could Set you Apart?

  • Critical Care provider experience is required. 

  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience as an inpatient PA or NP.

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and formal Adult Practitioner training program or a graduate of an accredited Physician's Assistant program.

  • Current MN RN license and be approved or eligible by the Minnesota Board of Nursing for prescription writing privileges or a current PA license with prescriptive authority through the MN Board of Medical Practice.

  • Certified through ANCC/AANP or eligible for ANCC/AANP national exam or through the NCCPA and meet threshold criteria/qualifications for Credentialing and Privileges.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Exceptional collaboration abilities

  • Education focused and a creative problem-solver
