Job Description

A Lead Planner is required to oversee the planning function on a mega project, working with various departments with our clients organization. The primary objective for this role is to support and collaborate with 3 key groups within the project (engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) group, Commissioning Qualification & validation group and Operational Readiness group), understand each deliverable elements and report to leadership on progress and status updates. Key activities include:

Help to provide clarity on key milestones to define what, when and how activities will be organized to ensure the outcomes can be achieved.

Bring together various groups separate schedulers to provide leadership with status updates on progress including critical path and key milestone activities.

Lead on all aspects of project planning, including the development, updating, and monitoring of plans and schedules.

Identify tasks, activities, interdependencies, and outputs. 

Work with the project team to track and monitor progress against the plan throughout the lifecycle. 

Develop clear vision and standards and champion the use of best practice project planning standards, tools and processes. 

Apply advanced knowledge in the discipline of planning for the analysis and successful resolution of risks and issues and identification of opportunities. 

Provide guidance and specialist advice to the Project Manager on selection of planning approach, tools, processes and proportionality. 

Identify and lead the introduction of industry standard best practices. 

Work with stakeholders to ensure all aspects of their department are defined and hold them accountable to delivering their activities on time.

Lead ad-hoc schedule studies that enable rapid decision-making based on payback, rate of return, etc.

Other work as needed in support of successful project delivery and commissioning.

Qualifications

10 years of experience in construction project management, including planning/scheduling: preferably in industrial, manufacturing and/or high-tech industries.

Comprehensive understanding of cost and schedule management process and procedures for multi-billion dollar facilities.

Capable of analyzing and root causing cost and schedule variances against the plan.

Must be able to utilize techniques such as earned value management/analysis, critical path analysis, cost loading and risk management. 

A proficient level of understanding of Primavera P6.

Advanced MS PowerPoint & Excel skills.

Demonstrated problem solving ability in cross-functional environment.

Ability to work within a high-performance, cross-functional organization with extremely tight timelines and aggressive goals.

Detail-oriented with exceptional organizational skills.

Open-minded, collaborative, proactive, and team-oriented attitude.

Excellent communication skills with a personality for obtaining team buy-in to drive best practice Project Controls work process implementation.

Strong work ethic.

A degree in related engineering/project management field is desirable.
