Your Impact
The Mechanical (HVAC) Engineering Department Manager is vital to the success of Thriven Design. The ideal candidate should have a minimum of ten years of experience designing systems for commercial, educational, healthcare, and multifamily buildings. The candidate should be seasoned and capable as an engineering project manager, capable of designing and engineering a project from initial concept through completed construction. This is a full-time position.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and evaluate system concepts and options to determine best design and engineering solution for each project based upon project scope
- Develop design drawings and specifications for building mechanical systems
- Perform systems analysis and prepare reports and studies as well as cost estimates
- Lead and coordinate with architects, engineers, designers, and administration staff
- Interface with clients to discuss changes to designs and/or specifications
- Work with leadership to manage design manpower budget and update budget to reflect revisions or changes in scope
- Represent the company in a professional manner in all dealings with owners, architects, vendors, other design professionals and contractors
- Assisting in the firm’s human resource efforts through training and mentoring junior firm members
- Work closely with marketing, leadership, and business development
- Perform other duties as assigned
Education And Experience
- Education: B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution
- Experience: 10 years of job-related experience
- Licensure/Certification: Professional Engineering License in NJ & PA (at least one is required, with ability to obtain the other). LEED accreditation is desirable, but not a requirement.
Preferred Qualifications
- Project management experience is required (including interfacing with client, coworkers, and code officials)
- Proven track record of success in managing multiple projects simultaneously
- Hands-on experience with engineering, design, building, and mechanical code requirements, with emphasis on multifamily facilities including affordable housing, student housing, and market-rate housing
- Energy efficient design knowledge is a plus
- Document quality assurance and control skills
- Project field experience (punch list and physical needs assessments)
- Professional technical writing skill is beneficial
- Demonstrated proficiency in ArchiCAD or AutoCAD environment
