Join our culinary team as a Part-Time Baker in a luxury senior living community, where every recipe brings comfort, joy, and connection. You'll work in a beautifully appointed kitchen creating fresh-baked breads, pastries, and desserts that delight our residents daily. What you will do

  • Prepare baked goods following portion and quality standards as specified in recipes.
  • Knowledgeable in the proper operation of all kitchen equipment required for the position.
  • Check daily function sheets and prepare items accordingly.
  • Competent with basic knife skills.
  • Advise supervisor of low inventory items; assists in receiving items and taking inventory as required.
  • Maintain sanitation and cleanliness standards in the kitchen area that meet or exceed the state and local health inspection standards.
  • Maintain a clean, neat, and well-organized work area, including but not limited to reach-ins, walk-ins, and counters. Reports all unsafe or malfunctioning equipment to supervisor.
  • Prepare baked goods for service to residents and community guests and present food according to established health and presentation standards.
  • May assist by performing ware washing or other kitchen duties as needed.
  • Promote teamwork and quality service through daily communication and coordination with other departments. Key departmental contacts include sales and marketing, catering, outlets, and maintenance.
  • Perform side-work and any other opening or closing duties as required. Ensure that production stations are clean and maintained throughout shift.
  • Alert management of any service and/or safety issues. Make appropriate service recovery gestures according to established guidelines to ensure total guest satisfaction.
  • May assist with other duties as assigned.

What you will need

  • 18 years or older, pending specific state requirements.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Prior experience in a healthcare environment or professional kitchen preferred.
  • Strong teamwork skills.
  • Successful background check and drug screen, state-specific
  • Health screening and TB tests, state-specific
  • ServSafe® Certification and State Food Handlers Card, state-specific
  • Ability to read, speak, write, and comprehend English for recipes
  • The ability to work holiday and weekend shift schedules.
  • Basic reading and writing.
  • Safe food handling practices: handling food, objects, products and utensils
  • Safe knife/sharp handling skills
  • Communication skills are utilized a significant amount of time when interacting with wait staff, cooks, and supervisors.
  • Foodservice experience with general knowledge of restaurant operations.
  • Alcohol awareness certification and/or food service permit or valid health/food handler card as required by local or state government.
  • May be required to work nights, weekends, and or holidays.

Physical and Sensory Requirements

Requires mobility to stand and walk extensively during meal preparation and service. Lifting, carrying trays, and boxes, up to 25 pounds. Pushing/Pulling Food Hot Boxes up to 50 pounds. Bending and stooping for access to carts, food, trays, and other kitchen equipment. Manual dexterity for the use of kitchen utensils and tools. Visual acuity for reading menus, labels, and directions. Hearing ability to respond to verbal communications. Exposure to hot and cold temperatures. Taste and Smell to assess food quality, freshness, and adherence to dietary requirements. Ability to distinguish colors for food presentation.
