Wage range: $19.28 per hour to $22.50 per hour (plus a night differential pay per hour!)

Your Impact

The Cook is responsible for receiving and processing/preparing food orders for patients, staff, visitors, and catering customers at Enloe Health. They also will perform short order cooking, using established culinary techniques in the preparation of standard menu items. Work also includes maintaining par stocks, ordering supplies, rotating products for maximum quality, and minimizing waste during the flow of food preparation. All food handling and preparation activities are performed in accordance with external and internal safety and sanitation standards and related regulatory guidelines. Our Cooks are accountable for the quality of the food prepared.

Job Specific Duties

  • Understands modified diets and is a team player in working toward patient nutritional well-being.
  • Meets time deadlines for patient services, café service, and catering.
  • Prepare a variety of meats, seafood, poultry, vegetables, and other food items in broilers, ovens, grills, fryers, and a variety of other kitchen equipment according to standardized recipes.
  • Assumes 100% responsibility for the quality of the product served.
  • Knows and complies consistently with our standard portion sizes, cooking methods, quality standards, and kitchen rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Stocks and maintains sufficient levels of food products at line stations to assure a smooth service period.
  • Portions food products prior to cooking according to standard portion sizes and recipe specifications.
  • Maintains a clean and sanitary workstation area including tables, shelves, grills, broilers, fryers, pasta cookers, sauté burners, convection ovens, flat top range, and refrigeration equipment.
  • Prepares items for broiling, grilling, frying, sauteing, or other cooking methods by portioning, battering, breading, seasoning, and/or marinating. 
  • Follows proper plate presentation and garnish set up for all dishes.
  • Handles, stores, and rotates all products properly.
  • Assist in food prep assignments during off-peak periods as needed.
  • Closes the kitchen properly and follows the closing checklist for kitchen stations. assist others in closing the kitchen.
  • Attends all scheduled employee meetings and brings suggestions for improvement.
  • Performs related duties as required.

What you will need

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Ability to learn, retain and perform new information.

  • Must have valid ServeSafe Food Manager Certification or obtain within 90 days of hire.

  • Successful candidates must meet eligibility criteria, including the ability to undergo and successfully complete a criminal background check and drug screen in accordance with applicable State laws and regulations.
  • Ability to provide documents for work authorization. We utilize E-Verify, an online system that allows us to confirm the eligibility of our employees to work in the United States.
  • High School Diploma/GED

Physical and Sensory Requirements

  • Talks or hears & taste or smells.
  • The employee may be required to sit; climb, balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception & ability to adjust focus.
  • Work indoors 80%; outdoors 20%
  • A hazard includes, but are not limited to, cuts from broken glass, knifes, production equipment and metal cans, burns, slipping and tripping.
  • Frequent washing of hands.
  • May occasionally lift and/or move 40+ pounds.
