At Viral Vector Services (VVS), a business unit of Thermo Fisher Scientific, we deliver from process development through commercial supply and offer the expertise and resources vital to help clients deliver innovative gene therapies. Placed in the forefront of our leading and groundbreaking Cell and Gene Therapy business enabling clients to cure genetic, rare, and otherwise untreatable diseases.

What will you do?

  • Reporting directly to the Vice President and General Manager of the Viral Vector Service Business Unit, the General Manager site assumes a pivotal leadership role within the Viral Vector Services Business Unit. This role involves being responsible for all aspects of our newest and largest commercial plant to support our gene therapy and viral vaccine customers.

  • Lead the site leadership team to facilitate commercial readiness and lead plant start-up, being responsible for the operations of the facility

  • Hold Profit and Loss (P&L) responsibility for the site, collaborating closely with Commercial Operations and Finance to establish and achieve commercial/financial targets.

  • In this high-visibility position, you will be recognized both internally and within the industry as a General Manager responsible for delivering on the promise of transformative medicines, aligning with the VVS long-term growth plan.

  • Play a crucial role in expanding the business and brand within the rapidly growing Gene Therapy Contract Development and Manufacturing (CDMO) services industry

  • Strategically leverage internal capabilities to achieve technical and business results, combining an awareness of external market forces with a deep understanding of our customer’s needs.

  • Proactively inspire change across the network by identifying process improvements and delivering innovative solutions.

How will you make an impact?

  • Manage the Profit and Loss (P&L) of the Viral Vector Services Site.

  • Lead all facets of operations, uphold organizational standards, and collaborate with commercial operations to establish customer contract requirements.

  • Ensure that the site possesses essential capabilities to support business management forecasting and planning.

  • As a leader, drive change to facilitate the successful assimilation of company and cultural values aligned with our 4i Values. These values set the standard for the Site, Business Unit, and PSG.

  • Identify and cultivate opportunities to exceed overall performance, accelerate growth, improve margins, and reduce working capital needs.

  • Leverage complementary strengths and build impactful teams, ensuring scalable talent is positioned in key roles to develop and acquire essential capabilities.

  • Provide and drive strategies to achieve both long-term and short-term goals for the Business Unit, aligning with the strategic business plans of PSG and Thermo Fisher Scientific.

  • Proactively identify and solve problems, recognizing a wide range of early warning signals in the business, necessitating a proactive approach to problem prevention.

  • Ensure full alignment with both customers and regulatory authorities to deliver detailed compliance.

How will you get here?

Education

A bachelor’s degree required or advanced degree in business administration or science related field a plus.

Experience

  • Possess a mix of strategic and operational proficiency, coupled with a proven leadership track record in multifaceted, sophisticated, and highly regulated manufacturing settings, consistently delivering robust operational outcomes.

  • Should possess the capacity and inclination to serve as an influential leader within the business unit, actively identifying challenges and offering proactive solutions.

  • Knowledge of the levers that drive revenue and margin at the business unit level.

  • Must have successful P&L experience.

  • ​Align with the company's aspirations by adopting a growth mentality and embracing change management principles.

  • Influence the strategic and tactical direction of the business by providing informative and timely business analytics.

  • Develop, drive, and nurture new business by growing services for current clients and introducing new clients into the network.
