The Food Safety Senior Inside Sales Representative is responsible for achieving annual revenue goals for both capital and consumables within the Food Safety segment of Thermo Fisher Scientific Microbiology Division (MBD). This is a hybrid role defined by executing professional sales calls both in the field and virtual from an inside sales capacity. The portfolio class of products include Molecular Capital and Consumables, Culture Media, Quality Control, ID and AST Capital and Consumables. The Food Safety Senior Inside Sales Representative will maintain effective customer relationships, develop opportunities for growth within an existing and new customer base, and assure market penetration and profitability while achieving sales goals. The Food Safety Senior Inside Sales Representative will join a team of Account Managers and work closely with the Regional Business Manager and Inside Sales Representatives.
Location/Division Specific Information
The Microbiology Division (MBD) offers a complete range of clinical, pharmaceutical and food safety automated platforms and consumables that support customers in clinical diagnostics, pharmaceutical manufacturing and production and food pathogen testing.
Location: US – Remote/Field
Territory: Northeast US
A Day in the Life
- Consistently achieve or exceed all assigned sales targets and demonstrate use of strategic selling skills remotely (60%) and in person (40%) to grow current and new business.
- Develop and manage key customer relationships and distributor business partnerships.
- Work with customers on pricing, development of new opportunities, closing opportunities while building relationships with end users and purchasing departments.
- Develop a business plan that is updated quarterly and includes growing current customer base and identifying prospective customers to expand market share and achieve sales goals.
- Enter accurate and complete customer data and sales information into the company CRM and maintain a healthy sales funnel for growth.
- Meet key performance indicators (KPI’s) as set by sales leadership.
- Communicate key activities, trends, and changing customer dynamics as well as account objectives and actions to sales management.
- Maintain knowledge of products, services, competitive activity, and market dynamics.
- Participate and fully engage in training and development programs.
- Collaborate with internal and external team members to develop account specific strategies.
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably in a Life Science field, ideally microbiology or food safety
Experience
- Familiarity or strong background in inside or customer facing sales experience in food safety, microbiology or molecular.
- 2+ years of consultative sales experience in a technical environment.
- Alternatively, a candidate with no sales experience but with strong commercial awareness and good technical knowledge of a lab setting gained as a supervisor or technician (or similar) in food safety, microbiology or molecular.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- A broad familiarity with any of the following industries would be an advantage: Food Safety, Microbiology, Molecular – Academic or Industry
- A sales mentality: strongly motivated by targets and the desire to win new business
- Must reside within the territory and be able to travel for 2 days of customer-facing activity/week, may require overnight travel within the assigned territory
- Must hold a valid driving license
- Fluent in English
Compensation and Benefits
The salary range estimated for this position based in Pennsylvania is $47,800.00–$71,650.00.This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy.
