This is a hybrid role. The ideal candidate can be located anywhere in the United States. This role will oversee the North America & South America operations for Medical Communications. Estimated 20% travel, primarily in the United States.

A day in the life of the Executive Director of Operations for Medical Communications:

- Oversees day to day operational success for PPD Medical Communications:

o Supports new product or service development through leadership, strategic thinking and innovation
o Leads the business unit in services that sets industry standards for quality and outstanding service
o Builds and mentors team of Directors and Associate Directors to accomplish goals, enhance engagement and career progression
o Builds and manages infrastructure to support growth of operations globally
o Manages salary administration and performance management for Directors and other direct reports and ensure equity across department

o Ensures client expectations are exceeded and value is demonstrated; manages client performance survey process, oversees PPD Med Comm representation during regulatory or client audits, and oversees client business review meetings
- Analyzes operational project revenue targets against forecast provides business context for performance and remediation for deviations as necessary. Manages Directors and Associate Directors to ensure maximal capture of billable hours/revenue.  Manages departmental budgets against plan and modifies departmental spend as necessary to ensure profitability targets are met.
- Serves as senior operations point of escalation on client, contract or quality
issues.

- Oversees Technical Operations to ensure project technology needs are met according to contracted agreements; works with the AD/Director of IT to ensure daily deliverables are met for all departments; works with AD/Director of IT to ensure appropriate resources are available and such resources are maximized to help achieve corporate revenue targets.
- Assesses/approves strategy and operational content of proposals during corporate Bid Review, assigns project implementation duties, ensures new projects are delivered upon according to contracted timelines, and ensures contract content adequately reflects services provided.
- Takes an active role in developing business for PPD Medical Communications;
collaborates with BD and Operations bidders to set effective bid strategies, oversees proposals/bids/presentations, develops new contacts/leads and encourages expansion of existing business by delivering a quality product/service.
- Provides long-range strategic planning, development of departmental business plan, and departmental budget, including necessary capital and human resource
expenses.
- Develops PPD Med Comm reputation as the nurse and pharmacist employer of
choice by participation in career fairs, development of relationships with nurse and pharmacy schools and by building/maintaining a collaborative, supportive,
and motivating work environment.

Qualifications:
Minimum Required Education and Experience:

Previous experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job (comparable to 15+ years) to include 8-10 years of pharmaceutical experience.
10+ years of management responsibility to include 3 years of concurrent project management experience with primary client responsibilities. Strong preference for medical background such as RPh, PharmD, RN. In some cases, an equivalency, consisting of a combination of appropriate education, training and/or directly related experience, will be considered sufficient for an individual to meet the requirements of the role.

- Excellent leadership, judgement, and decision-making skills including ability to make difficult decisions under pressure
- Proven track record of outstanding performance as evidenced in documented performance reviews
- Evidence of strong management skills as shown through management of multiple projects and staff
- Ability to analyze data and make appropriate decisions
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and good presentation skills
- Basic computer skills (Excel, Microsoft Word)
- High degree of flexibility; ability to adapt to change and institute change
- Ability to understand basic accounting, budgeting, and forecasting principles
- Ability to influence Executive peer groups and direct reports to reach corporate objectives
- Ability to mentor leaders and develop necessary infrastructure for growth
- Maintains positive attitude and supports decisions of upper management
- Complies with all company Policies and Procedures and fosters compliance with others
Management Role:
Manager role with significantly larger management scope (e.g. global or regional responsibilities or multiple departments) OR mastery of manager skills and responsibilities as demonstrated by consistent, multi-year successful performance.

Oversees daily operational activities and provides work direction to staff responsible for Information Technology Systems, Operations Management, Training, Quality and other support functions to meet business objectives. Interacts closely with the VP of Operations, Commercial Finance and Business
Development leaders to meet corporate business goals for authorizations and revenue. Accountable for the organization’s operational success. Maintains full responsibility for establishing competitive service delivery models and innovations that ensure achievement of financial targets, for client satisfaction and
retention, for the delivery of high-quality services in adherence with policies and procedures, and for staff engagement and development.
