How will you make an impact?
As a Research Scientist / Engineer, you will join the technology and product development team within our R&D department. We are a group of dedicated engineers and scientists working to design, implement, test, and validate innovative instruments used in measuring trace contaminants in ambient air and process gas streams. The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of electronics and analytical instrumentation, and an appreciation of how these technologies can drive our customer’s efforts to improve environmental quality and process efficiency!
What will you do?
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers to design innovative electronics and instrumentation used in detection and measurement of air pollution and analysis of process gases.
- Work with a variety of technology platforms based on UV and IR optical spectroscopy. These include laser absorption spectroscopy, NDIR spectroscopy, cavity ring-down, photoacoustic spectroscopy, gas filter correlation, FTIR and others.
- Design, prototype, trouble-shoot, and refine electrical systems including laser and LED drivers, various types of optical detectors, and data acquisition systems.
- Plan and implement laboratory and field evaluations of sophisticated technologies developed in-house or acquired from outside parties.
- Partner with business development, marketing, and product management to help commercialize select technologies.
- Engage with regulatory bodies, such as the US-EPA and industry experts in the fields of environmental monitoring and process control.
How will you get here?
Education
Doctorate or Master’s degree in Instrumentation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics or a related field with a focus on analytical instrumentation
Experience
- 3+ years of related research and development experience
- Experience designing analog electronics, such as tuning mechanisms for laser based instruments
- Hands on experience using analog laboratory test equipment including signal generators, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, power meters, lock-in amplifiers and laser drivers
- Proven knowledge of data acquisition techniques and real-time analysis
- Experience with design and testing tools such as OrCAD, PSpice or Altium
- Hands-on experience with integration and testing of embedded electronics, single board computers, thermal controls, and electro-mechanical devices
- A history of scientific publications and/or patenting
- A positive demeanor, excellent communication and problem solving skills
