Preferred candidates will have at least 3-5 years clinical experience and 1-2 years leadership experience. This position will dedicate 0.8 FTE to clinical practice and 0.2 FTE to Administrative and Leadership duties.

Site Medical Director - Job Summary:

Under direction of the Chief Medical Officer and in close partnership with the Practice Manager(s) of the assigned site(s), the Site Medical Director (Medical Director) provides the clinical leadership necessary to assure that Jane Pauley Community Health Center (JPCHC) is operating a high-quality, safe, patient-centered, and financially sustainable site(s) of care.

The Medical Director is a collaborative partner with the Practice Manager(s) having joint accountability for the outcomes expected from their practice location(s); each with areas of principal and unique oversight and responsibility. The Medical Director’s principal responsibilities are to guide and support the clinical aspects of the practice and to provide leadership for the providers (i.e. physicians, Advance Practice Clinicians, therapists etc.) The Medical Director also provides counsel and input to support the Manager(s) in their management of the business and operational aspects of the practice. The roles are mutually responsible for creating a stable, high-functioning team-based care environment that enables professional satisfaction among providers and other team members, and reliably high-quality, accessible care for the patient population.

  • The Medical Director is a practicing clinician within the (one) site at which they provide their leadership.
  • The Medical Director is a key member of the Chief Medical Officer’s clinical leadership team.
  • The Medical Director demonstrates behaviors consistent with professional standards of practice, care, and the mission, values, and goals of JPCHC.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Serves as a ‘paired leader’ with the site(s) Practice Manager in the day-to-day running of the practice and the management of its patient population. Assures that practice design results in accessible care for the patient populations.
  • Is jointly accountable with the Practice Manager for the site(s) quality, experience, financial, and other key outcomes.
  • Is a champion for, and a student of, concepts of team-based care and practice organization. Uses these concepts to influence the design and operation of the site(s).
  • Partners with Quality, Operations, Finance, Patient Experience, and other colleagues to clearly understand performance indicators.
  • Is a student of clinical leadership, healthcare quality, process improvement methodologies. Serves as a local resource to others of these concepts and their application.
  • Participates in formal leadership training opportunities, as mutually agreed upon, with the Organization’s support.
  • Leader of the evolution toward population health management, complex care management, and success in a value-based payment environment.
  • Supports the Practice Manager in defining the roles necessary to assure high quality accessible care for the patient population.
  • Works with Human Resources and the Practice Manager in the selection process for new patient care team members at the assigned location.
  • Oversee Medical Staff infrastructure at site that supports the delivery of quality and evidence based primary care services in furtherance of the Center’s mission to provide high quality, cost-effective care to all Patients.
  • Serves as a collaborating physician for one or more site Advance Practice Clinicians (APC’s: NPs, PAs) as necessary.
  • Provide medical practice oversight at the Site to include involvement in individual provider practice and primary care program operations.
  • Supports an environment characterized by highly professional behaviors among peers. Provides feedback and coaching to provider colleagues in pursuit of this desired environment.
  • For sites determined by JPCHC Executive Leadership to pursue Patient Centered Medical Home designation, the Medical Director will assure clinical leadership of the site’s PCMH process.
  • Supports the site(s) as a place of excellent medical education for a variety of learners. As appropriate, facilitates and coordinates Medical Student, Nurse Practitioner Student, Physician Assistant Student, and physician resident training opportunities at the Site.
  • Provides perspective and leadership to support understanding and analysis of clinical events which occur at the Site. Contributes knowledge to risk management efforts impacting the site. Works in close partnership with the Director of Quality and Population Health, the Compliance Officer, and others in supporting these functions.
  • Actively assists the administration in the development of Health Center policies and procedures, assuring compliance at the practice level.
  • Attend JPCHC leadership huddles and other appropriate meetings to be able to report and help lead organizational goals at Site.
  • Upholds the JPCHC Code of Conduct and the JPCHC Patient Bill of Rights.
  • Is an exemplar of the Values of JPCHC.

Education and/or Experience

  • Doctor of Medicine degree or Doctor of Osteopathy degree
  • Board Certified or Board admissible in Family Medicine or Med/Peds
  • Valid Indiana licensure.
  • Possesses a current DEA license.
