SUMMARY
This position works on and maintains various General Ledger files and accounts. The incumbent performs financial data entry and reporting.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Reconciles various general ledger and bank accounts (45%).
- Prepares spreadsheets, performs inquiries and generates reports from the accounting system, in order to answer the questions of the business staff, and assists the business staff in other departments.
- Coordinates with various departments the month–end and year-end closing processes including obtaining accurate information from them on a timely basis.
- Assists in the annual and semi-annual audit as required.
Maintains / reconciles – subsidiary ledger, outside accounting systems, etc. (30%)
- Creates journal entries to record financial activity.
- Regularly reviews detailed records, performing analysis to identify problems and issues, and recommends changes and solutions.
Assists in the preparation of combined monthly financial statements for The Mother Church and its activities, as well as other periodic or special reports as needed. (15%)
- Prepares various spreadsheets and accounting system reports.
- Works with colleagues and business staff to produce special reports as needed.
- Works with clients in modifying and improving design of financial processes and reports.
- Works with Technical Services Group and Accounting Systems personnel to resolve computer related problems.
Performs other duties as assigned. (10%)
- Provides assistance and backup for other general ledger activities.
- Trains others to assist and backup this position’s work.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education/Experience
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business. At least 3 to 5 years of previous work experience in accounting.
Knowledge/Skills
This position requires a proven understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and good communication skills.
Technology Skills
- Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) skills are required
- Experience with computerized financial and business systems
Work Environment
This position regularly works in an office environment at The Mother Church.
Engagement with Christian Science
Membership in The Mother Church preferred.
Background Checks
This position is required to complete a background check to be hired and annual background checks thereafter.
