Do you want to make a difference in the North Minneapolis community by supporting full-day, year-round therapeutic education and care for children ages six weeks through kindergarten? The Family Partnership is seeking a full-time Family Worker that serves as an advocate and provides resources for assessment, therapy, and training for families participating in our preschool.

The hours for this position will vary from 7:00am to 6:00pm, Monday through Friday, and will be on-site in our Children’s First Early Learning Center.  The ideal candidate will have a deep commitment to and understanding of working with families experiencing crisis, have the ability to be teacher qualified to be able to sub in classrooms as needed, and is comfortable wearing a mask.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists clients with identifying family strengths and weaknesses to develop goals toward positive changes in their lives.
  • Intervene in crises to provide a safe environment for the clients and their children.
  • Provide formal and/or informal educational resources or counseling in all areas of family life.
  • Refer families to community resources for ongoing procurement of basic needs (food, shelter, and clothing).
  • Address behavior management and child development techniques as needed.
  • Advocate for clients in the area of relationships with other community, educational, or medical agencies.
  • Interact and communicate with administrative, childcare, and therapies staff regarding parent-child and family issues.
  • Develop and maintain a community resource file for crisis intervention purposes.
  • Maintain Food Manager Certification and monitor compliance of CACFP Food Program.
  • Provide support and training with family members as they gain the insight and the skills necessary to meet their own as well as the needs of their children.
  • Plan and implement monthly center based parent/child educational activity event
  • Strategize services as a team in order to provide continuity of services.
  • Follow-up with families who have had their Hennepin County Childcare Assistance terminated.
  • Ensure constant supervision of the children as needed when substitute teaching.
  • Provide a safe, stimulating, healthy, and nurturing environment to provide all children with a positive experience.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in a related social or human services field, or must have demonstrably equivalent knowledge gained through alternative courses of study and experience.
  • Minimum of 24 college credits and DHS qualified required.
  • Minimum of one-year experience as a teacher or assistant teacher in a childcare setting

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience working with families in crisis from various social backgrounds
  • Good communication and problem-solving skills. 
  • Ability to work as a team member with an awareness of community programs and resources
  • Strong record-keeping and writing skills, and computer proficiency a must
  • Need a valid driver’s license, a reliable vehicle, current auto insurance, and must be willing to transport clients
  • Ability to maintain client confidentiality.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Valid MN Drivers’ License, access to reliable transportation, and the ability to meet TFP’s driving record requirements.
