OVERVIEW:

The Photo/Video Production Manager is responsible for producing photography and video projects for The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis and overseeing associated staff. The incumbent develops video concepts for museum marketing campaigns and other cross-departmental needs that include organizing and conducting shoots, editing video and audio, creating motion graphics and other special effects, and adding graphics or captions in post-production. The manager provides photographic services for a wide variety of needs, visual perspectives, and archives. They work in concert with social media and digital content colleagues across the organization. The incumbent edits and processes digital images and maintain photo and video assets in a proprietary digital asset management system.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provides photography and video services in support of museum marketing and other cross-departmental needs. Delivers final products that are tailored to the best practices of the end user, whether that’s news outlets (print photos, broadcast video, or digital assets), the museum’s social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube), website, paid advertising, or for a public event or exhibit display.
  2. Researches and develops concepts, contributes to scripting, prepares storyboards and shot lists, scouts and selects locations and settings for both video and photo shoots.
  3. Performs extensive post-production editing, including incorporating soundtracks and applying graphics, to ensure a polished final product that accomplishes stated goals, meets the specifications of the designated point person, and delivers on budget and on time.
  4. Manages and mentors the digital media production specialist, interns, and volunteers, providing guidance, support and assistance in skill development. In those situations where additional expertise is needed, participates in the selection and oversight of outside vendors.
  5. Collaborates with departmental and museum colleagues to create products that are consistent with the museum’s brand standards and accomplish the museum’s family learning goals.
  6. Researches, purchases, manages, stores, and maintains needed videography and photography equipment for museum use only and in accordance with museum policy and practice.
  7. Maintains a current vendor list for those situations that require outside expertise or equipment. Manages media vendors.
  8. Coordinates and directs talent, models, and volunteer subjects that may appear in photographs or video productions, expediting best performance possible from subjects. Works in cooperation with marketing coordinators to manage shooting schedules. Must be flexible when scheduling photo and video shoots; activities and events often occur outside of standard operating hours.
  9. Prepares and monitors photo and video related production budgets.
  10. Conducts work in accordance with rules, regulations, and intellectual and copyright laws. Assists with educating internal colleagues and work with legal advisers to maintain policies and prevent abuses. Manages a secure, accurate, easily accessible system for photo release forms.
  11. Maintains marketing content in a large digital asset management system available to all museum departments. Categorizes and catalogs ongoing additions to the multimedia database. Defines metadata to multimedia files to make assets searchable.

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Five (5) years of demonstrated experience in video production and photography. People and project management experience preferred.
  2. Bachelor’s degree in radio/television, film, fine arts, or equivalent work experience.
  3. A highly organized self-starter who can manage a large volume of media requests and work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and vendors to meet project deadlines and provide quality products in a timely manner.
  4. The ability to think creatively and to tell a good story visually. Understanding of digital media best practices and delivery formats and sizes.
  5. Proficient Mac user with demonstrated skill using the Adobe Creative Cloud applications, with particular expertise using Premiere Pro, After Effects, and Photoshop.
  6. Expertise in the use and maintenance of video and media equipment such as cameras, lighting, and sound equipment.
  7. Proven track record of customer service orientation and consistent follow up and follow through.
  8. Ability to establish priorities, work independently and proactively with all the departments of the museum, and balance a multitude of projects and clients.
  9. Must be able to work occasional evenings and weekends. Flexibility in weekly schedule as assignments dictate.
  10. Well-developed communication skills.

ADA REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Ability to read reports, visually assess settings and lighting, and view a computer monitor and review proofs of materials before printing.
  2. Ability to communicate by telephone and in face-to-face meetings and assess and utilize audio tracks.
  3. Must be able to handle video and still cameras and set up lighting.
