OVERVIEW:

The Interactive Media intern will assist the Interactive Media team in the development of digital interactives throughout the museum. The intern will work closely with both the interactive media designer and developer to create working prototypes that replace older exhibit interactives. The intern will shadow the design and development process of new interactive elements.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Creating wireframe structures of interactives based on written descriptions.
  2. Creating storyboards as required to describe interactive states and operations.
  3. Creating high-fidelity mockups following preexisting exhibit style guides.
  4. Shadow designer and developer in the interactive production process.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • The intern will have little to no work with the public.
  • Significant sitting and working at a computer.
  • The atmosphere is relaxed and quiet.

REQUIREMENTS:

This internship can be a great learning experience for students in almost any field of study. The main requirement is to have solid writing skills. In addition, candidates should:

  1. Be actively pursuing a degree in a relevant field of study at an accredited university or higher learning institution. (relevant fields include but are not limited to Interaction Design, Visual Communication Design, Graphic Design, Motion Graphics, User Experience Design, User Interface Design, etc.)
  2. Be available to work at least 20 hours per week
  3. A portfolio demonstrating project process and design excellence. 
  4. Have strong oral, and written communication skills. 
  5. Strong time management skills, be a self-starter and be self-directed. 
  6. Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite required: Unity RTE preferred. 
  7. Maintain behavior patterns acceptable to co-workers and the general museum culture.

ADA REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to sit and use a computer for extended periods.
