This position is responsible for producing machined parts by programming, setting up, and operating a computer numerical control (CNC) machine. They will also be required to maintain quality and safety standards, keep accurate records, and maintain equipment and supplies. This role requires someone with 5-axis programming capabilities.
Essential Functions and Key Responsibilities:
- Performs frequent and complex 5 axis CNC programming on high end 5 axis CNC machines
- Performs setup and operation of 3 and 4 axis CNC mills, CNC turning, milling and EDM Wire machines to produce quality parts based on provided specifications
- Performs close tolerance machining and inspection
- Ensures quality completion of all CNC jobs to meet scheduled due dates
- Communicates with engineers and planners daily to assure accurate routers and schedules
- Provides support in absence of CNC manager to ensure successful completion of all jobs
- Fosters a culture of continuous improvement by proactively identifying and implementing ways to reduce set up times and identify potential cost reductions in regards to product design.
- Solves tooling issues by identifying productivity of tooling, evaluating tooling performance, and evaluating new tooling requirements
- Provides training to other Machinists at the direction of CNC manager supervisor
- Recommends program changes and submits program change requests to engineers
- Assists in the maintenance of a detailed program database including revision dates, program revision and/or improved method record
- Interfaces and supports all internal departments to achieve common goals
- Designs, fabricates and maintains tooling
- Support and assist with machine preventative maintenance program as required
- Performs other related duties and assignments as assigned.
Knowledge and Skills Requirements:
- Strong working knowledge of math operations such as trigonometry and geometry.
- Proficient in the use of specialty software, including Creo CAD/CAM or NX programming software
- Demonstrated ability to read complex blueprints and determine the best method for manufacturing components
- Ability to use, operate and apply a range of precision inspection instruments and devices
- Understanding of calibration cycles of test tools
- Experience with precision measuring tools; able to choose tooling for all types of geometries and applications; knowledge in tooling manufacturer’s insert grades and tool holders
- Commitment to high quality standards and continuous improvements
- Organized, ability to multi-task, and self-starter.
- Experience using Wire EDM
- Proven ability to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Strong English written and verbal communication skills and ability to interact with all levels.
Education, Work Experience, and Professional Certifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent is required
- Technical or trade school training is highly preferred
- 3-5 years of experience with CNC programming and close tolerance machining
- Experience in advanced 5-axis programming with NX CAM software is required
Work Environment / Physical Requirements:
- Machine shop environment, with exposure to dirt, dust and noise
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time and engage in repetitive pushing/pulling actions
- Ability to work extended hours as necessary.
- Able to work efficiently and accurately in an atmosphere of frequent interruption
- Ability to safely life and carry up to 50 lbs
- Must be willing to wear requirement safety protection gear
- Requires constant visual awareness due to moving parts in machine shop

The expected pay range for this position is $35.00 to $40.00 per hour.
