The Area Bakery General Manager is accountable to lead one bakery and manage and direct the work of the general managers of 1-2 additional bakeries in their respective market. This person will lead the entire bakery/bakeries operation through properly executing the annual operating plan and is responsible for activities that take place in and outside of the bakery four walls including flawless operations, people leadership, retention and financials.
RESPONSIBILITIES/HOME BAKERY:
Operations:
- Flawlessly executes all bakery/bakeries operations in accordance with the AOP
- Executes shift changes and conducts daily opening/closing duties to ensure bakery is clean and ready for guests
- Ensures area-wide guest satisfaction and product quality
- Manages inventory and order product as required
- Makes days Better for team members and guests alike by ensuring the timely resolution of complaints / issues; report major concerns to the Market Leader
- Ensures compliance with all SusieCakes policies and procedures including meal and rest periods, DPAC, etc
- Prepares for and recovers from peak guest demands by adjusting labor plan and deployment as necessary
- Executes marketing initiatives and campaigns as directed by HOST
- Assist Head Baker(s) as needed to manage production process to ensure quality products are served/delivered in a prompt, timely manner
People:
- Builds a fundamentally sound team through constant recruiting (both active and passive) and creates an environment which develops and retains team members
- Assures bakery(ies) have an ample bench to support and backfill both Market growth & Market staffing
- Cross-trains team members and develop/maintain an effective cross-training program
- Maintains the training trackers and ensures all team members are trained on monthly internal notes
- Provides constant feedback both in the moment and through more formalized tools including 60 day reviews, annual performance reviews, cupcake chats and succession planning
- Reconciles previous performance and addresses performance improvement plans
- Coaches team members to ensure work performance expectations are followed at all times
- Establishes team member accountabilities and notifies HR/ML of team member issues and collaborates with HR to ensure documentation is prepared and delivered in a timely manner
Financial:
- Manages cash by utilizing SusieCakes controls and accounting procedures (if applicable)
- Prepares paperwork and maintains flawless records for bi – weekly payroll
- Drives best in class financial results – teaches, coaches, and motivates the team to hit sales, labor and cost of goods performance goals in every bakery
- Reconciles previous bakery performance, creates improvement plans, follows up and celebrates successes
- Reviews and approves labor schedules consistent with sales forecast, staffing guidelines, and labor budgets using appropriate software tools
Facility/Safety:
- Ensures proper safety procedures are being followed
- Ensures bakery compliance with all audit requirements (e.g., inventory and cash control)
- Maintains a clean and sanitary environment at all times in accordance with bakery and health department standards
- Ensures that the Ecolab (Pest Elimination & Chemical) standards are consistently maintained
- Manages unscheduled bakery maintenance as needed
MARKET RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversees, manages and provides feedback and direction to the GM for assigned bakery/bakeries
- Identifies, investigates and resolves issues as they arise in the business
- Approves schedules for both bakeries to ensure proper allocation of resources, coverage and training
- Ensures GM(s) is continuously recruiting, interviewing and staging guest service talent
- Supports delivery of corrective/performance documentation and other difficult conversations
- Works with ML (who is final authority) to accept out of the ordinary product requests or turning down orders
- First point of contact for assigned bakery/bakeries for guest related issues, scheduling, and product
- Problem solves and sends request to the Market Leader (if necessary) to provides coverage for leave of absences, vacations, staffing voids and other extenuating circumstances
- Other projects and responsibilities may be assigned at the discretion of the company. Examples of these may include, but are not limited to:
- Market training support for new initiatives
- Remote recruiting support (first Interviews / requisition management as assigned)
- Participate in new initiative brainstorming / testing, sharing key learnings and best practices from personal observations and industry education
- Supporting talent growth for new bakery openings

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to commute to multiple locations with limited notice (as required)
- Two years of previous managerial or supervisory experience
- Track record of leading and developing teams through clearly articulating expectations and holding team accountable
- Has an eye for detail and is able to execute standards accordingly
- Demonstrates the ability to work independently and make sound decisions that are in line with the business ideals
- Ability to read and analyze a P&L and uses the tool to effectively drive the business
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Frequent walking, kneeling, bending and reaching
- Able to stand for extended periods of time
- Must be able to safely utilize a ladder
- Must be able to lift, move and carry up to 50 pounds
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor’s Degree in business or hospitality management preferred
OTHER:
- Scheduling flexibility to accommodate the demands of a fast-pace and growing organization
