Company Description

Since we opened our doors in 2009, the world of commerce has evolved immensely, and so has Square. After enabling anyone to take payments and never miss a sale, we saw sellers stymied by disparate, outmoded products and tools that wouldn’t work together.

So we expanded into software and started building integrated, omnichannel solutions – to help sellers sell online, manage inventory, offer buy now, pay later functionality through Afterpay, book appointments, engage loyal buyers, and hire and pay staff. Across it all, we’ve embedded financial services tools at the point of sale, so merchants can access a business loan and manage their cash flow in one place. Afterpay furthers our goal to provide omnichannel tools that unlock meaningful value and growth, enabling sellers to capture the next generation shopper, increase order sizes, and compete at a larger scale.

Today, we are a partner to sellers of all sizes – large, enterprise-scale businesses with complex operations, sellers just starting, as well as merchants who began selling with Square and have grown larger over time. As our sellers grow, so do our solutions. There is a massive opportunity in front of us. We’re building a significant, meaningful, and lasting business, and we are helping sellers worldwide do the same.

Job Description

The restaurant industry is at an inflection point where technology is becoming more important than ever in shaping a restaurant’s success. The Square for Restaurants team is helping restaurants build and grow smart businesses that can shapeshift to adapt to evolving diner demands, all while maintaining a sense of hospitality.

This position on the Restaurants team will focus on helping restaurants start, run and grow their businesses through building products that automate and elevate every part of the flow of their service.

To be successful in this role, the ideal candidate must be able to transform a deep empathy of a restaurant's needs and pains into elegant software, to think tactically and strategically, to manage deep cross-functional collaboration and methodical execution. You must also be able to drive ambitious growth metrics and own the details of the solution from deep in the stack through the end user experience.

To accomplish this you will work with our leadership team and business leaders to deliver on the high potential of our new products + markets.

As a Product Manager for Restaurant Configuration you will build products that help restaurant owners and managers set-up and scale their business. You’ll lead the end-to-end vision for how restaurants can leverage both Block owned channels and third party channels, and will work across teams to implement that strategy. For new restaurant sellers, you’ll help managers onboard to Square so they can take orders from diners on day one. For existing restaurant sellers, you’ll drive the vision and roadmap for channel expansion strategies working on nudging sellers to make the right decisions for their business and then measuring the success of their channel mix. You’ll also ensure that when restaurants scale, they have a seamless set-up experience from their menus to floor plans to kitchen set-up.

If you’re looking to work at a high-growth company, drive impact on widely used products and change the way the restaurant industry works on a global scale you will find this role compelling, challenging, and rewarding.

You will:

  • Own goals and KPIs of the restaurant configuration roadmap, ensuring outcome driven decisions and creating a feedback loop for continuous improvement
  • Guide the roadmap and creation of restaurant configuration capabilities that are delightful, scalable, reliable, and remarkable while anticipating non-obvious risks and resolving complex issues
  • Work closely with restaurant owners to deeply understand their needs, what keeps them up at night and how they run their business and serve their diners
  • Direct and utilize data and qualitative research to identify high-priority seller and business opportunity areas
  • Drive alignment on strategies across multiple stakeholder teams impacting multiple products at Square
  • Evaluate external vendors for key capabilities and articulate a build/buy/integrate strategy
  • Collaborate with research, design, data science, partnerships, product marketing, 3P vendors, sales, and engineering to define and drive roadmap

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience directly building products as a product manager
  • Vision: Experience crafting a compelling product vision and breaking it down into clear milestones
  • Customer Empathy: Strong customer empathy that drives customer-centric product direction
  • Analytical Skills: You have a data-driven learning style and use quantitative information to make product decisions
  • Results: Proven track record delivering products with demonstrable contribution to business outcomes
  • Stakeholder Management: Experience launching products at scale thereby working across a large organization with complex product interdependencies
  • Decision Making: Demonstrated excellence in using principled decision-making to influence diverse stakeholders, including peers and executive leadership
  • Technical Mindset: Ability to understand technical systems and how they operate, not necessarily in an engineering capacity, but enough to spot potential issues and make trade-off decisions
  • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create clarity from ambiguity and distill complex issues into easy-to-understand narratives
  • Excitement: Interest in serving restaurant owners and managers
  • Bonus: Experience working on B2B SaaS products or marketplaces
  • Bonus: Experience working with food delivery marketplaces and aggregators (e.g. Doordash, UberEats, etc.)
