Company Description

Since we opened our doors in 2009, the world of commerce has evolved immensely, and so has Square. After enabling anyone to take payments and never miss a sale, we saw sellers stymied by disparate, outmoded products and tools that wouldn’t work together.

So we expanded into software and started building integrated, omnichannel solutions – to help sellers sell online, manage inventory, offer buy now, pay later functionality through Afterpay, book appointments, engage loyal buyers, and hire and pay staff. Across it all, we’ve embedded financial services tools at the point of sale, so merchants can access a business loan and manage their cash flow in one place. Afterpay furthers our goal to provide omnichannel tools that unlock meaningful value and growth, enabling sellers to capture the next generation shopper, increase order sizes, and compete at a larger scale.

Today, we are a partner to sellers of all sizes – large, enterprise-scale businesses with complex operations, sellers just starting, as well as merchants who began selling with Square and have grown larger over time. As our sellers grow, so do our solutions. There is a massive opportunity in front of us. We’re building a significant, meaningful, and lasting business, and we are helping sellers worldwide do the same.

Job Description

Square is looking for an experienced Senior Designer to join our hardware creative studio team. You will shape the experience sellers have when they shop for hardware on public web. You will lead the creative vision for the evolution of that experience, knowing when to quickly iterate and when to reimagine the path entirely. You’ll find simplicity, structure, and meaning across the holistic seller journey. You will bring a grounded point of view to UI/UX design work, while also being able to easily shift gears to go-to-market work. You will concept, collaborate on, and craft creative across public web, shop-owned channels, integrated campaigns, retail and packaging. You will lead photo and video shoots, demonstrate key knowledge of Square products, and craft a visual language that is easy to understand. Your work will help build awareness and brand affinity by driving the growth of Square hardware and telling the Square story in a meaningful and engaging way at every seller touchpoint.

This is a hands-on senior design role with opportunity to influence our hardware marketing creative and our path to conversion. You will be at the heart of co-creating on-strategy ideas and bringing them to life. You’ll be asked to connect dots, organize thoughts, and develop plans to match the team’s expectations. You will lead projects from concept through execution, QA, and iteration. You will work across platforms - covering web and mobile experiences, visual design, photography, film, and animation.

You’re conceptual, strategic, and kind. You can share and sell your ideas — and you encourage others to share theirs. You sweat the smallest details, understand what it takes to develop excellent creative work, excel in collaboration, and have a passion for inspiring team members. You thrive independently, but appreciate solid feedback. It fuels you to find a new approach that pushes but doesn’t break brand guidelines. You cruise when collaborating on larger launches and also when working alone on smaller projects. You understand and respect copy as an equal in the creative process and discipline, and you know great creative is dependent on how design and copy play together — always. You will report to the Creative Director.

This position is remote from the US or Canada.

  • Lead brainstorm concepts, design, and art direction across different media and marketing channels, working with both the creative team and external agencies.

  • Understand market nuances and partner to localize content across all of Square’s geos.

  • Foster partnerships with program management and a cross-discipline team of designers, engineers, writers, product marketers, and strategists.

  • Champion brand standards and brand traits in all creative.

  • Maintain a high level of creative execution and always look for ways to grow.

  • Use customer and industry data to inspire creative concepts.

  • Easily take on the biggest projects along with the smallest.
