JOB SUMMARY:
The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary occupies a thriving 80-acre campus in Louisville, KY. The campus serves as home to both the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and Boyce College. The Campus Police Officer reports directly to the Assistant Chief of Campus Police and is a key component to ensuring the safety and security of the campus community. The employee is responsible for providing quick response to all calls for service which may include emergency situations. The Campus Police Officer is an armed law-enforcement position that requires the employee to qualify as a Special Local Peace Officer (duly commissioned and sworn under KRS 61).
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
The employee in this position will have the following essential job functions:
- Provide professional, trained armed law-enforcement services for all seminary personnel, guests and visitors as well as seminary property, i.e. buildings, equipment, intellectual property.
- Manage building access control systems including lock/unlock protocols and key control.
- Maintain regular, but random patrols of the campus throughout each shift, including operating Campus Police vehicles.
- Provide security for chapel services and other special events held on campus.
- Effectively and efficiently interact with all members of the seminary community as well as guests and visitors; utilize effective crowd techniques; and deal professionally and firmly with protestors and individuals(s) intent on harming persons or property.
- Make decisions that can/will affect the constitutional rights of individuals established by the U.S. Constitution and/or federal, state and local regulations.
- Interact professionally and efficiently with outside agencies (federal, state, local) when situations require their presence and assistance.
Performs other duties as may be assigned by a supervisor.
PRE-REQUISITES:
- Must have a current Commonwealth of Kentucky driver’s license.
- Must be a current Kentucky resident of at least 12 months (required for KRS)
- Must be able to pass a Commonwealth of Kentucky approved firearms qualification course.
- Must be able to pass a seminary approved CPR/First Aid/AED course.
- Must be able to provide “fit-for-duty” documentation from an approved healthcare provider.
- Must be able to perform all functions expected of a police officer including (but not limited to), directing traffic, making arrests, subduing non-compliant subjects, and using less than lethal equipment.
- Must be able to walk and stand for extended periods of time.
EDUCATION:
The person in this position should have a minimum of four (4) years of post-secondary education. Relative experience in a law enforcement capacity may substitute for the education preference.
EXPERIENCE:
The person in this position will have a minimum of 10 years of law enforcement experience; must be competent in the use of a variety of firearms; and must have excellent communication and “people” skills. Specialized training through the military or law enforcement is desired (i.e. Crisis Intervention Training, SWAT, hostage negotiations, or other specialty team assignments)
