SUMMARY: The Registered Nurse - PACU is responsible for delivering excellent patient care first and foremost, assisting in all pre and post visits as per policies, assisting in surgical procedures, and fostering a spirit of teamwork.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE (including but not limited to the following):

A.D.N. or B.S.N. from accredited College of Nursing, accompanied by sitting for and passing the NCLEX-RN exam maintaining in the state(s) of employment. RN is responsible for maintaining the required elements for successful renewal.

  • Must have at least 2 years’ experience in a general anesthesia PACU; critical care experience can substitute for a portion of that time.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (including but not limited to the following):

General:

  • Acts with integrity to maintain patient confidentiality and ensure HIPPA compliance at all times while maintaining PHI Disclosure records.
    • Responsible for the confidentiality, security, and physical safety of patient and clinical records.
    • Responsible for the timely retrieval of individual records upon request. 
    • Responsible for the unique identification of each patient’s record. 
    • Monitors the collection, processing, maintenance, storage, and appropriate access to and usage of patient and clinical records. 
    • Maintains and organizes the secured record format according to policies and procedures.
    • Responsible for the security of the clinical record including a method of tracking who accesses the record in order to block unauthorized access.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the organization’s emergency operations plan and the role of the RN in an emergency/ disaster situation. 
  • Knowledge of policies and procedures related to OSHA standards to include but not limited to: infection control, risk management, hazardous communications, and environmental safety.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of standard precautions, hand hygiene, transmission-based precautions, and personal protective equipment.
  • Enforces policy adherence consistent with AAAHC guidelines to maintain superb Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Improvement (QI).
  • Practices Quality Improvement measures according to QI
    • Planning, designing, measuring, assessing, improving new or revised processes of patient care and
    • Facilitating a positive patient outcome, while maintaining a safe environment for personnel, patients, and
  • Reviews paperwork thoroughly prior to procedure to ensure current history & physical, current medication history and other required elements are present.
  • Collaborates with the physician and healthcare team in the delivery of patient care, utilizing the nursing Provides professional nursing care to patients, including conducting nursing assessments, assisting with exams and treatment, patient education, and maintenance of medical records.
  • Demonstrates strong, accurate decision-making capabilities. 
  • Maintains a professional relationship with each patient and understands the importance of setting proper limits and expectations for anticipated results.
  • Exhibits sound clinical judgment regarding wound assessment including s/s of infection, bleeding, proper healing, is essential. Protects the patient in the event of a medical/health care error and, as appropriate, assists in medical/health care error resolution.
  • Demonstrates competency in the knowledge of the delivery of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge of proper identification and reporting of medical/healthcare errors.

  • Remains informed of new products, equipment and techniques for operating room safety and

  • Strives to assist clinic in meeting Key Performance Indicators for operational as well as sales targets and actively partners with team to help clinic achieve overall goals.
  • Responsible for explaining benefits of and directions for utilizing patient care bundles for more comfortable patient
  • Comprehends Sono Bello’s electronic tracking tools and databases, including, but not limited to: Sono Bello intranet found at mysonobello.com (QM reporting, Surgical Information Tool, Cancellation Reporting), iNet, and the Manuals Portal (policies, procedures, and associated forms). The RN must be well-informed on updated content and materials therein.
  • Establishes and maintains a secure knowledge and understanding of ALL policies, procedures, and associated Policies, procedures, and forms are subject to change and RN must be current on all changes regarding forms located on the Sono Bello Manuals Portal. Such forms include but are not limited to: Informed Consent, Medical History, Physical Exam, and Medical Clearance.
  • Educates patients about pre-op and post-op care, including providing information and quotation details for post- care healing bundles.
  • Strives to assist clinic in meeting Key Performance Indicators for operational as well as sales targets and actively partners with team to help clinic achieve overall goals.
  • Assumes responsibility for the successful completion of initial and annual training requirements.
  • Attends and participates in scheduled clinic and corporate meetings including staff education, in-services, and clinic staff meetings.
  • Provides assistance to other RN roles with opening and closing duties. 
  • Provides back-up support for other clinical staff, as
  • May perform Non-Invasive Body Contouring treatments on patients with appropriate training, authority, protocol, and procedure followed.
  • Completes special projects as assigned. 

Procedural Responsibilities:

Demonstrates proficiency in the following clinic-related duties, as well as assisting other staff in performance of these duties (including but not limited to the following):

  • Pre-Procedure Responsibilities:
    • Ensuring that all pre-operative preparation is completed. This may include assisting physician where needed, answering last minute patient questions, and assisting patient in a timely manner.
    • Patient’s pertinent health information including a clear knowledge of patient’s medical history, current medications, and other current health related issues.
    • Ensuring patient is fully and timely prepared for surgical procedure.

  • Post-Procedure Responsibilities:
    • Immediate comprehensive assessment of patient according to anesthesia provider orders.
    • On-going assessment of patient condition and progression post anesthesia.
    • Assisting, if needed with application of proper post-procedure dressings and garments to patients with patient comfort in mind.
    • Providing excellent nursing care to patient and attain strict criteria for
    • Explaining treatment procedures, medications and physician's instructions to patients and caregiver(s).
    • Discharging patients to caregiver(s).
    • Maintaining close observation of post operative patient and assessing for changing
  • Miscellaneous Post-Procedure and Follow-Up Responsibilities:
    • Assist in returning all patient phone messages in a timely
    • Schedule follow-up appointments with patients, if
    • Maintain appropriate medical Report to manager when orders are needed.
    • Stock new supply orders and disposing of
  • Laser safety (refer to Laser Safety Policy)
  • RN will exhibit knowledge in the field of laser safety and standards of laser safety in the clinical
  • Supporting the RN in establishing appropriate criteria and authorized procedures for all health care personnel working in laser hazard zones.
  • RN should understand where lasers are being used and access to these areas should be controlled.

    Department/Environment --RN to locate and/or demonstrate knowledge of:

    • Phone system
    • Computer system
    • Fire equipment
    • Exit doors
    • Oxygen valves and shut off
    • Medication refrigerator, temperature log and climate control
    • Emergency (red) outlets and lights
    • Crash Cart/Banyan Stat Kit/AED
    • Department resources including: Policy and Procedure Manual, OSHA and other related safety manuals, fire/ emergency management manual, PDR/Drug resource manual and all patient education and teaching aids.

              ADDITIONAL SKILLS AND RESPONSIBILITIES FOR JOB PERFORMANCE:

    1. SKILLS AND ADDITIONAL TRAINING:
      • Must be proficient in basic computer skills and utilization of MS Office
      • Must maintain ACLS
      • Critical care or PACU certification preferred.

        COMPENSATION

        This is a Non-Exempt position with an hourly range of $33.00-$42.00, depending on experience.
