SOME (So Others Might Eat) exists to help the homeless and poor of Washington, DC. With over 30 programs throughout the District of Columbia, we provide a wide spectrum of services to the most vulnerable individuals and families in our city. SOME (So Others Might Eat) is looking for a Public Safety Officer Team Lead (Unarmed) with a great attitude and a high level of commitment to keep our clients, staff, and community safe.
Covid-19 Considerations: In alignment with DC Health, COVID-19 vaccinations, and boosters are mandated for personnel working in SOME’s healthcare-designated programs, which currently include Medical, Dental, Population Health, Behavioral Health Services (BHS), Exodus House, Jordan House, Kirwan House, Kuehner Place, Leland Place, and Mary Claire House. Position Description: Lead public safety officers and give assistance with operational support for SOME Inc. programs and facilities. Monitor CCTV and report findings
Schedule: Tuesday-Saturday, 11am-7:30pm (40 hours per week)
Required: HS Diploma or GED; 3-5 yrs. Public Safety experience; experience providing services to the homeless and/or underserved population.
Preferred: Bachelor's Degree; 3-5 yrs. Public Safety and supervisory experience; experience providing services to the homeless and/or underserved population.
Required License/Certification: CPR/First Aid; Must possess and maintain a vehicle and valid Driver's License (Mileage will be reimbursed)

Expected Contributions: Public Safety Management/Supervisory
- Ensure appropriate department staffing levels in order to meet objectives; Assess, evaluate, and hire new employees as needed
- Ensure SOME Inc. facilities are safe and clients receive services in a secure environment. Provide security detail inside/outside of the locations.
- Provide conflict mitigation and de-escalate conflict between clients, guest, residents and/or staff with the use of CPI\Handle With Care training.
- Develop and file incident reports SIR for medical, police issues and special circumstances
- Issue barring notices as needed
- Contact police when conflict escalates or violent behavior is exhibited by client, guest or residents
- Develop positive working relationships with the local police and other law enforcement
- Enforce rules consistently for all clients, guests and residents
- Monitor security cameras, prepare footage and download for investigation
- Complete and file incident reports/ SIR for medical, police, issues, and special circumstances
- Print off pictures from CCTV for barring list and keep information accurate and up to date
Environmental Working Conditions: This position functions primarily on the O Street Campus with exposure to heat, cold, steam, and fumes. Work will be performed both indoors and outdoors on SOME facility grounds.
Physical Demands: Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds, bend, kneel, and squat, and may be required to stand for long periods.
