We are seeking a Space Domain Awareness (SDA) Project Engineer who will be assigned to support the US Space Force’s Space Systems Command, Operational Command and Control Acquisition Delta, known as Kobayashi Maru located in / near El Segundo, CA. Kobayashi Maru is responsible for continuously delivering impactful software for space operations. The program office’s mission includes the development and deployment of software for space defense, space domain awareness, and enabling data services.

Responsibilities

As an SDA Project Engineer, you will leverage your knowledge in software architectures, algorithms, development, patterns, implementation, and integration – to advise various teams on executable approaches to deliver solutions that meet the end-users needs, while complying data, platform, test, and schedule constraints. You will take on the most complex aspects of the project and recommend short-term and long-term solutions to resolve pain points in the system with clear deliverables and action items. You will identify existing problems in systems and products without any guidance or oversight and offer well-thought-out solutions to these problems. You will help enable teams to shorten development cycles while maintaining high quality software.

You will use your SDA engineering expertise to drive the delivery of critical mission capabilities. You will become responsible for delivery of solutions for one or more of the follow mission areas:

  1. orbit determination
  2. decay/re-entry/de-orbit
  3. launch
  4. satellite catalog administration
  5. general software application support

Your top priority will be the successful design, development, integration, test, deployment, and acceptance of the capability for which you are assigned. You will be in daily collaboration with Product Owner(s), Product Manager(s), Engineer(s), and other stakeholders to set the vision, define event-based roadmaps, define product features (i.e., epics), advise on user story prioritization, support integration and test commitments, and manage external dependencies associated with the assigned mission area. You will uphold and enforce standardized engineering processes and best practices. You will manage and plan for all programmatic dependencies impacting the capability, which may include data feeds, test environments, and platform functionality. You will become part of a larger Integrated Product Team, wherein you will champion for the assigned capability, attend Agile ceremonies (e.g., sprint planning, daily standup, backlog refinement/grooming, sprint reviews and demos, and sprint retrospectives), and report plans/progress to stakeholders.

This is an on-site position with possible hybrid work as approved by the government, but you will be expected to work on-site with the Government customer at an off-Base location in El Segundo, CA mostly due to the fast pace, quick-turn nature of the job and the persistent need to access secure networks. You should reside within a comfortable driving distance to El Segundo, CA.
