We are currently seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to contribute to the design and development of mechanical components and systems for our products – particularly with defense programs. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring the reliability and performance of mechanical systems, from concept through to production, including re-engineering existing products to meet customer requirements and specifications.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Design and development of mechanical components, systems, and assemblies using CAD software.
- Generate detailed 2D and 3D drawings, models, and prototypes.
- Perform engineering calculations and simulations to validate design concepts and make data-driven decisions.
- Conduct stress analysis, thermal analysis, and other relevant simulations.
- Create and oversee the fabrication of prototypes for testing and validation purposes.
- Analyze test results and iterate on designs to improve performance and reliability.
- Develop and implement quality control procedures to ensure product reliability and consistency.
- Participate in design reviews and design failure mode and effects analysis (DFMEA).
- Ensure that designs comply with relevant safety and industry regulations, and MIL standards.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including program management, and electrical, software and systems engineers, to ensure successful project execution.
- Work closely with procurement team to optimize the cost of materials and manufacturing processes.
- Identify and resolve technical issues and challenges related to mechanical design, both independently and as part of a team.
- Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in mechanical engineering to drive continuous improvement in our designs.
Required Skills/Abilities
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, CATIA).
- Strong knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes, and mechanical analysis tools.
- Hands-on familiarity with mechanical simulation software and tools.
- Knowledge of defense industry regulations and standards.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in mechanical design engineering, preferably with defense programs such as missile systems and loitering munitions.
