General Description
The objective of the internship is to introduce the intern to the field of public accounting and to provide a dynamic, challenging and fun experience. The internship is usually 40 hours per week from the start of January through mid-April or later. Alternative schedules or durations are available on a case-by-case basis.
The intern will be exposed to RubinBrown’s national real estate practice and other Assurance industries. The intern will be provided with an introductory orientation to the firm. This orientation includes administrative and professional matters. Each intern will be assigned a Career Advocate, who will assist the intern in building a set of personalized goals and objectives for the internship. Other training will include extensive use of information technology, including use of the firm’s accounting and tax networks.
Responsibilities
- Work in a team-based environment to perform tax-related tasks for a variety of firm clients.
- Work as part of the tax team with Managers, and Partners, gradually taking on more challenging assignments while developing and enhancing technical and practical knowledge.
- Interact with clients and/or other firm members to obtain relevant information necessary to successfully complete assigned tasks.
- Prepare tax basis trial balances, work papers and other necessary documentation to support the accurate and timely preparation of client tax returns.
- Prepare account reconciliations and journal entries related to assigned tax engagements.
- Prepare various types of federal and state tax returns.
- Identify and communicate issues to managers or Partners related to a specific engagement.
- Prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
Qualifications
- Working toward Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting.
- Minimum GPA of 3.20/4.00 or higher.
- Exhibit an understanding of basic accounting concepts.
- Be detail oriented, perform work accurately.
- Be organized and communicate status of engagements in a timely manner.
- Be proficient with MS Office.
- Incorporate feedback from supervisors in a timely manner.
