RTI International seeks a prospect for the RTI-HS Pharmacoepidemiology Summer Internship within Health Solutions (HS).
This internship is a contract position. The employment contract is administered by Greene Resources Powered by Array, RTI’s supplemental staffing partner.
RTI Health Solutions (RTI-HS) (http://www.rtihs.org ) is a business unit within RTI International focused on conducting research for pharmaceutical, medical and device companies. The Global Pharmacoepidemiology and Risk Management team, within RTI-HS (https://www.rtihs.org/services/pharmacoepidemiology-and-risk-management) is currently based in the US (NC, MA), and Spain (Barcelona). We are active members of the European Network of Centres for Pharmacoepidemiology and Pharmacovigilance (ENCePP) and the International Society for Pharmacoepidemiology (ISPE).
The Pharmacoepidemiology and Risk Management group of RTI Health Solutions group seeks an intern to assist with aspects of study design, data analysis, literature reviews, protocol development, and dissemination activities on a variety of projects for commercial clients. The internship will provide opportunities to learn about application of rigorous methodologies in a practical setting, including regulatory requirements, methodologic and operational aspects of conducting studies within multiple databases, and multi-country post-authorization safety studies in the US and Europe.
Learning Objectives:
- Gain knowledge of pharmaceutical company regulatory requirements for post-marketing safety studies in the US and Europe
- Increase knowledge of applied pharmacoepidemiologic methods in a real-world setting
- Increase knowledge of US and European data sources used for post-marketing safety studies
Responsibilities
- Contributing to literature reviews and background sections of study reports
- Preparing IRB, ISAC, and data use applications
- Composing sections of epidemiology protocols, and analysis plans
- Developing detailed variable definitions using multiple medical coding dictionaries
- Conducting quality control of protocols, reports, and manuscripts
- Presenting a past project or work-in-progress to RTI Health Solutions’ Epidemiology team
- Leading journal club for RTI Health Solutions’ Epidemiology team

Additional Information
This hybrid paid internship will take place from May 2024 through August 2024. The internship requires a minimum commitment of 20-40 hours per week. Hours are flexible during business hours, Monday through Friday.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Currently enrolled doctoral student in a pharmacoepidemiology program in at least the second year of the program
- Completed coursework in pharmacoepidemiology and demonstrated knowledge of quantitative research methodologies and study design
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as strong interpersonal skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in research using large health care databases
- Past experience consulting or working with pharmaceutical, device or biotech company
