Overview
RTI International seeks a prospect for the TCTAC Project Evaluation Internship within the Social, Statistical, & Environmental Sciences (SSES) unit.
RTI International’s mission is to improve the human condition by turning knowledge into practice. Our vision is to address the world’s most critical problems with science-based solutions in pursuit of a better future. The REACT4EJ TC TAC team provides environmental justice technical assistance to community groups throughout the US Southeast (EPA Region 4).
For an intern interested in working on environmental justice (EJ) from a public health perspective, we offer an internship with a respected public health non-profit research organization. RTI International serves as the Thriving Communities Technical Assistance Center (TCTAC) for EPA Region 4, providing technical assistance to community groups in the southeast to build the region’s capacity for environmental justice work. As the Region 4 TCTAC coordinating center, RTI works with a university partner in each state to conduct outreach, lead trainings, and provide individual TA to community groups on topics such as identification, applications for, and management of grants; navigating government systems; and capacity development. This intern will help with the evaluation component of this work, helping develop and maintain a data dashboard using PowerBI to assist with reporting on the TCTAC’s activities. This may also include developing visually appealing report templates for our university partners. While the Atlanta-based project staff concentrate on evaluation-related activities for the TCTAC, there will be opportunities to engage in other aspects of RTI’s EJ work based on the intern’s interests. Such additional projects could include compiling resources to assist community groups, assisting with state outreach, or devising effective virtual trainings or TA systems.
Learning Objectives:
- Build an understanding of business systems and API system connectiveness while working on a dashboard linking ZenDesk, RedCap, Google Analytics and PowerBI.
- Understand basics of project evaluation including contributing to a data management plan.
- Increase knowledge of and contribute meaningfully to EPA's work on environmental justice in the US Southeast.
Responsibilities
- Assisting in construction and maintenance of a PowerBI dashboard.
- Contributing to evaluation, communications, and TA systems that strengthen TCTAC services.
- Collaborating with team members from across RTI to expand RTI's depth of engagement on environmental justice.
- Engaging in community meetings in Georgia or at RTP as needed for the TCTAC project.
RTI's Internship Program emphasizes experiential and mentored learning experiences, providing students and recent degree recipients an opportunity to apply their academic knowledge and skills in a meaningful and practical way. We are committed to developing the future workforce by encouraging interns to explore various career paths in a nonprofit research institute setting that values diversity and inclusion.
